Waldorf Astoria
Cocktail Terrace
301 Park Ave. (50th St.) Waldorf Astoria Hotel 2 5 10 10

Comments: This is a very elitist lounge. If you're into watching celebrities, I guess it's for you. The prices are obscene. There are some pretty nice views. The pianist is rather boring. It seems more like an extension of the hotel lobby than a bar. The service is top notch (especially the gorgeous waitress named Patricia). The hotel lobby bathrooms are very well kept by the attendants. (Is nothing private?) - T.K.

Walker's
(Avg. of 3 reviews)
16 N. Moore St. (Varick St.) 9.3 9.0 8.3 7.3

Comments - This is one of the best bars in Manhattan. I should know, as I am a true Manhattanite. Brunch is to die for and New Years Eve they always have a great band and no cover. -A.Q.

Simplicity and character make this a great place. Relaxed and friendly. Great Pub grub. The proximity of John Jr. and Caroline's former apt. (next door) can't be lost on any Irish Catholic Democrat. - S.G.

This small, old TriBeCa establishment is a classic. The setup and decor resembles a western saloon. The fun, lively clientele is as varied as New York. It seems that small groups sit at the dining/cocktail tables. Well-lit, it features a TV, a high ceiling with fans, no music, and an after-work buffet. The prices are reasonable. The butcher smock clad bartenders are friendly and efficient. The bathrooms are a little lacking. - T.K.

The Wall
(Avg. of 2 reviews)
54-20 Roosevelt Ave. (55th St.), Woodside 5.0 4.0 6.0 3.5

Comments - The Wall presents itself heavily on the fact that it is a music showcase for established and newcomer bands. This is probably the only good thing going on at this place. The crowd is not an attractive one. The mood is rowdy and potentially dangerous. There really is no decor to speak of. The female bartenders are cute. The bathroom is second worse in Queens, in my humble opinion, to that of The Station Cafe. I'd say the place needs work but I am confident that it will never happen. The Wall is only the most recent of a slew of dives in this location including Rebels and Scallywags. It has lasted longer than both combined so far. Days are empty here and week nights without entertainment are equally miserable. I'd like to say nicer things but I can only report what I see and the picture is pretty bleak. - T.S.

This is a small, dark, smoky, dingy bar. There is live music most weekend nights. It usually is not too crowded. It draws an assortment of neighborhood regulars. It features a TV, a dartboard, a pool table, and a jukebox. The bartenders are friendly and efficient. The prices are reasonable. The bathrooms leave something to be desired. - T.K.

Wanda's Full Moon Saloon
(Avg. of 4 reviews)
700 Second Ave. (38th St.) 7.8 7.2 7.8 6.68

Comments - The old Suspenders still has firefighting decor on the walls and still seems to draw a lot of firemen (current and retired) as patrons. Well lit, this small place in a part of town that doesn't have many bars features several TVs, a jukebox with old tunes played low, video games, high-top bar tables, dining/cocktail tables, brick and wooden walls, and a decent pub menu. The bartenders are friendly and efficient.  - T.K.

Love the $1 draft happy hour special. The homebrew is awesome. Not pretentious, just go have a drink with a good friend. - S.Y.

Neighborhood bar of the damned: You want to like Wanda's Full Moon, especially with its $1 Happy Hour short drafts. But the Full Moon simply cannot be loved...or even endured. It is run by several super-sized babes from an indeterminate outer borough -- all of whom treat you with contempt and rudeness unless you happen to hail from the same block in the same borough. Drinks not even close to what you ordered are slopped in front of you, whisked away whenever you visit the rest room, and conversation with the babes is strictly discouraged. When we tried to share a joke with one of these Rubenesque ladies (the "blonde" nighttime babe), she stopped us mid-sentence and asked, "Why are you telling me this?" Several of the regulars have that possessed, I-just-murdered-my-mother-and-put-her-severed-head-in-a-pickle-jar look, although this look is understandable after just one visit to Wanda's Full Moon. Truly a suicide-inducing experience. - P.H.

I have recently visited this bar and when I saw [the comments] on this website regarding the attitudes of the bartenders, I was surprised. My friends and I were easily able to get on their good sides by making small talk about different things. These women are very nice ladies. - M.W.

Clean. Hot ass bartenders with nice teeth. I love this place. - U.F.

Waterfront Ale House
(Avg. of 3 reviews)
540 Second Ave. (30th St.) 9.7 7.0 8.3 6.3

Comments - A fine New York pub, with better than average pub grub and a nice selection of beers, single malt scotches and some other things. Wonderful, warm and friendly atmosphere. Get your own popcorn, as much as you want. Combine all that with reasonable prices and you have one of NY's finest pubs. Don't forget the original branch on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn either. - G.T.L.

The Waterfront is such a nice, cozy neighborhood pub. Great for after movies at Kips Bay or to watch the game with one of 30 tap beers. Great selection of wines too and a menu that offers more than standard "pub" fare although the cheeseburgers rock! And the staff is friendly and cool, especially Gus who bartends on Tuesday nights. Always a good crowd there - Check it out! - E.S.

Comments - Good for a relaxing drink after work, or great for that hanging out with old friends. - S.P.

Lame bridge & tunnel scene trying to play the same old Upper East Side music. I saw two fights, the bathrooms were disgusting, and it was filled with a bunch of guido losers. Safe to say, I won't be back. - S.P.

Yuppie crowd all the way. Every guy looks the same, wearing slacks and their Brooks Brothers shirts. I walked in to the bar with jeans, and people stared at me as though I had my pecker pulled out. Nice staff though. - M.K.

Good place for a few drinks, or to get all bombed up on a weekend night. Nice staff, although the Sunday bartender thinks he's the second coming. Stake out a spot close to The Body on Saturday nights. Keep up the good work boys, see you at the Drift in a few months. - J.L.

Water Street Bar 66 Water Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn 8.5 9.0 7.5 8.0

Comments - Very cool place in DUMBO (1st stop in Brooklyn). Like the decor with brick walls and ironwork. They have a huge dance/party space downstairs and serve great food upstairs. We went to see the Comedy Night last Wednesday and are going back again this week. - K.C.

Very interesting well rounded bar. Located in Brooklyn between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. Excellent use of space for there is plenty of room at the bar along with tables, cozy spots and a separate dance floor. Serves a great assortment of beers and spirits. It's food selections in selection are closer to finer restaurants then typical bar food. What's best here is that you can chose between regular pub grub or a finer meal. Service was friendly and efficient. Well worth the trip. - B.C.

125 E. 11th St. (between 3rd & 4th Ave.) 6.8 6.1 5.0 5.0

Comments - Huge dance club with 4 levels, four types of music. Main floor has a large dance floor, downstairs goes retro, while with the two upstairs rooms, the higher you go, the freakier they get. We’re talking freak show, with transvestites, transsexuals, people on stilts, midgets. Anything goes. Madonna held her slumber party here a few years back. A great party space. Doors open at 10, but expect to wait on line and pay a cover, unless, of course, you know somebody. - S.M.

Stupid. Full of freaks, and pretentious a**holes. - T.H.

Do anything, not too pricey drinks. - K.D.

The place was great but nothing out of this world that I would try again if I am in NY for the weekend. - C.C.

I love this bar. there is a great crowd, with a lot of freaks, my kind of people. B.T.

Fun club. Reminds me a bit of the Limelight. A bit of a young crowd with plenty of very pretty Chiquita. Prices are 'ok'. The bathroom is a bit of a haul down to the first floor. - F.M.

It has something for everyone, I guess. Pretty crabby staff. The guys in tights in the jungle room threw me. You can see just about anything there...a must see (at least once!) - H.S.

This is a dance club full of tourists and male regulars looking to score with a chick who will only be in town for a week or two. Drink prices will leave you broke if your trying to get drunk before dancing. Get yourself a 40 ounce outside. - A.B.

Welcome to the Johnson's
(Avg. of 4 reviews)
123 Rivington St. (bet Norfolk & Essex St.) 7.5 7.8 7.8 7.0

Comments - This place is decked out like your eccentric grandmother's living room, complete with family portraits, bowling trophies, and plastic covered furniture. Add to this a slamming jukebox, a Ms. Pac-Man table, and generous portions on the mixed drinks, and the result is nothing short of Dionysian perfection. At last, you can know what it feels like to get hammered over at grandma's house. - M.B.

Welcome to that 70's bar! W.t.t.J. is decorated like the Johnson's house, circa 1975. Vinyl covered couches, wood paneling, a living room complete with family portraits and a trophy case. Even the TV and refrigerator are vintage 70's. One of the coolest places on the lower east side, with a friendly bar staff. - S.M.

The Johnson's remind me of when I was a teenager and used to go to a party with a case a beer and no need to sleep at night. The decor is reminiscent of a 60's basement that has been finished off as a rec room. Bartenders are alert, friendly and mix a good drink. - J.G.

I have no idea why everyone raves about this place. The decor is fine, but you can't ever see it because it is usually way too crowded. Drinks are the same as anywhere. Prices are the same as anywhere. I like vintage furniture and trim, but that does not save this place as being nothing but mediocre. - M.W.

The West Bank Cafe
(Avg. of 3 reviews)
407 West 42nd St. (9th Ave.) 6.7 6.3 6.7 8.3

Comments: A great bar, but a little pricey. - G.F.

It's a bar/restaurant in Hell's Kitchen that is rather expensive for drinks. The atmosphere is much more like a fancy restaurant than a bar. It draws a combination of tourists and theatergoers. Getting served at the bar is a challenge. The bathrooms are good (it's a nice restaurant). - T.K.

A very comfortable afternoon bar if you need to go over some work; no pressure on nursing a drink and a nice eclectic clientele when the bar starts to fill. A nice mix of erudite tourists and locals. A little pricey but, hey, they gotta pay the rent which is probably going up since 42nd's re-birth. - J.R.

The West End

2911 Broadway (between 113th & 114th St.) 7.7 6.6 6.5 5.7

Comments - Great bar if you're a Columbia student. If not, well, then it's not so great. Good drinks nice bartenders, and they have a gong hanging from the ceiling. - A.N.

Fun with your own crowd, but the place does not believe in buy backs or rewarding large groups who run up a substantial food & drink tab. Bartenders are a little slow out of the gate and could definitely use a lesson on customer relations, i.e., service with a smile. - S.F.

Great place to meet after softball. Too bad the management is unable to keep the regular customers happy. - J.G.

Spacious bar and cafe that has been serving Columbia University students and neighbors for decades. Great special on pitchers and wings. Unfortunately, it has become notorious for warm beer, and the management seems indifferent to customers' complaints about it. Clueless bartenders, too. - S.M.

The place has gotten much busier since the summer. They have music almost every night, karaoke or DJs. A lot of different drink specials. the beer seemed cold to me. - J.S.

The bartender that works karaoke night (Wednesday, I think) is stunningly hot. Be friendly to him and he'll be friendly back, and that does include buy-backs. I spent many more hours there than I intended to because he was so charming. The gong is a little annoying, and the huge screen TV would be cooler if they put the sound on for big games. I thought the food was good and the drinks were well-made. Karaoke is super annoying and a big buzz-kill. - S.D.

I love the place. Great prices, friendly, good food. You can go in there alone and sit at the bar, have a conversation and not feel like you are getting hit on. So they don't buyback a lot. At happy hour you can buy a beer for $1.50. At those prices who cares??? - K.G.

I came in for the week from Colorado and had a great time at this bar. Lots of Columbia students, but this was a good thing. The party was a lot of fun, great looking girls, and the bartenders rocked.  Oh yeah, it was the only bar we went to with two levels, definitely check out the lower level. - C.B.

I go to the West End all the time now. There's a great locals scene that feels like a family but every week I meet new girls from all over New York. Upstairs it's exciting and friendly, but the downstairs is very chill. You can't beat drink specials every day of the week. D.K.

Comments: Good all around fun place - P.R.

Yet another NYC microbrewery goes by the wayside. As the microbrewery fad wanes, the West Side Brewery pulled out their tanks and no longer brews their own beer. It gets a good lively crowd, but unfortunately, although the scene is hot, the place is not. - S.M.

This [former] brewpub features a dining room in the rear with a fireplace, outdoor seating in warm weather, and several TV sets (one large screen). It seems to draw a good "yupper" West Side clientele. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. The bathrooms are decent. - T.K.

Beautiful place, that is beautifully decorated, with stuck up ridiculously rich people. I walked up to the door with four friends, and they made me wait outside while not only was there alot of room inside, but the people were ugly. We walked in and they were like, "who do these guys think they are".  Anyway, the liquor was top shelf, and the female bartender has a large top shelf as well. Do rich people think that blazers with t-shirts underneath are stylish??? Women were friendly, which was our only bonus, but all in all, I would only go back with a female on my arm.- J.B.

Comments - Because it is located off the lobby of the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel, it draws mostly Irish tourists. It is one of the better bars that is located in the interior of a Manhattan hotel. There is an extra lounge area in the lobby just outside the bar and a small 'beer garden' outside. (Avg. of 8 reviews)
541 Lexington Ave. (between 50th & 51st St.) 5.2 6.3 4.4 6.8

Comments - A great place to rub elbows with "high producing" stock brokers (or whatever they're called now) and their sycophants. Drinks are ludicrously overpriced (what do you expect at a hotel), and the bathrooms are designed for sniffing white powder. Go once just for the experience. - J.S.L.

Outrageously overpriced. Snobby. Got kicked out with some friends because our khakis and button down shirts weren't nice enough and the Counting Crows were there sitting by the window. We planted our butt-cheeks against the window, and got chased by the bouncers. - G.

Located in the W Hotel, a very elitist type of place. Obscene prices. Bathrooms are good but located outside the bar on the second floor of the hotel. Anyone I've spoken to about the place tells me they will never return. I agree. I don't know who these people are, but they always pack the place. - T.H.

For the movers and shakers, this is the bar for you. Sit on a bed, while sipping on a Bombay. Hot waitresses. - E.C.

Where New York's most pretentious go to drink!!! Go once to tell your friends that you were there rubbing elbows with people who think that they are cooler that cool and then go to a "real" bar and have fun. - F.15

It's expensive but that's what you expect. Good looking, money hungry women there. I was very disappointed in the service so I messed up the bathroom stall. - P.E.

Waitresses are eye-candy only, as they serve your drinks with nary a smile, and have little sense of humor. Wanna find a girl? Better wear a suit from the top floor of Barney's - the women in this place are on the prowl, and intelligent conversation has it's own shelf in the coat check. Past it's prime, and drink prices are ludicrous, so bring two wallets. Best now for "Been there, done that". Find a bar that wants your business, instead of your resume, and drink there. - J.S.A.

Everybody rated this place as a snobby place to drink and said the prices were high. I disagree. It was $ 9 for one of the best Manhattan I've had. It was made with top shelf bourbon and had about 4-5 oz. in the glass. Go to a club and it is a dollar less for a lot less bourbon. Sure some of the people in their suits and attitudes were funny to watch, but I saw several T-shirt and jeans tourists, a wedding party having a great time, and normal folks too. A good place to go for a cocktail with a date. - J.S.

This place is what real New York is all about. Great people and a beautiful atmosphere. The prices don't kill you either. I always have a great time there! – M.P.

Mellow. Relaxing. Attitudes and emotional baggage checked at the door. DJ on Thursday that had the taste and tact to ride along with the crowd's communal good mood, not drag you into his "cool world of musical knowledge" or force feed his unresolved teen angst/"dad was mean to me" projectionism of auditory assault. Fine selection of beers on tap, and single malts displayed with due reverence. Simple, tasteful interior lets the crowd be the attraction, a seemingly rarer find these days of eye-candy and novelty. Women relaxed, guys nonchalant about beer vs. shoe mishaps. Female barkeeps are quick, but not so rushed that you feel like an interruption. Plenty of smiles from the well, and they remember what you drink even when seated at the tables against the opposite wall. Will this bar be around for a while? A definite contender to be the first bar I have a beer at after I cash my first S.S. check 35 years from now. - J.S.A.

His picture still haunts the place. Great atmosphere, especially since adding air conditioning. Always a friendly crowd at the bar, with tables out-doors in warm weather. Great draft beers are a specialty, and a free bar buffet during happy hour. The clock always runs fast there, so don’t pay attention to it. Good juke box. - S.M.

Always a party going on at "Who's on First?" Great Ladies Night on Thursdays. Whether you're into pounding shots down or trying the famous "FISHBOWLS", Who's NYC never disappoints if you're looking to party. Great DJ's also. - C.182.

Let me tell you what a crazy night: The bartender is f---in nutz. Everyone was wasted, there where hot chicks everywhere. The prices where reasonable and we did get plenty of hook ups. The place is worth checking out, even if its just to see what type of freaky sh*t will happen next. - T.P.F.

I checked out this joint for one week so I could help my fellow drunks and dysfunctionals, and in my saga I found this place to be quite a rare find. Wednesday night they run a bartending school which they offer through authentic bar school. They have 2 for 1s till 11pm, hot chicks fumbling around the bar getting crazy with these two wild muscle guys behind the bar. Ended up hung-over that night. Thurs, Fri, Sat was a blur. There where girls on the bar ,behind the bar, making out with each other and a raw sexual vibe throughout the 2 floor club/bar/lounge. The crazy MC dude called out free funnels on the bar and wild blowjob shots for the girls, specials all night. The place has DJs 4 nights a week, with pool darts and a millions TVs for all your viewing needs. This spot is a tasty mix of what is contemporary in the city as far as real New Yorkers partying. A must see: Whose at WHO 'S ON FIRST? - B.J.

This place is the best! Blow job shots for the ladies and funnels too! The bartenders are the best! Friday night is the best night! It is called Fireman Fridays because Tommy the bartender is an FDNY Fireman. He is also the hottest bartender in the city. Tommy and the rest of the bartenders rock this place. They are a ton of fun! This place is the sh*t! - L.M.

A popular after work spot, especially on Thursday and Fridays when a DJ plays popular tunes for midtown office-workers. The very friendly staff are eager to please. Also a great spot for a classy yet affordable lunch. - S.M.

I wanted you to know that I stopped by a place called Windfall in Manhattan last Thursday night and thought the place was great.  They had a great DJ and great bartenders.  Just thought you should know. - J.R.

Trendy little bar in midtown.  Staff was friendly and the music was good.  Drinks a tad pricey and the bathrooms could use some work. - A.S.

Thursday night after work was great at Windfall.  The music that the DJ played was the best!  It definitely is a gem. -J.P.

This is the younger, but larger sibling of TG Whitney's. Very popular (crowded) on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, it draws a clientele of local office workers and commuters (It is located in walking distance of the PA Bus Terminal, Grand Central, and Penn Stations). It features a good food menu, several TVs, good music, high-top bar tables, lounge seating with coffee tables, a high ceiling, and miscellaneous decor. The drink prices are somewhat expensive. The service is friendly and efficient. The bathrooms, located in the basement, are more than adequate. -T.K.

Comments - Surreal. Smack down, er, DAB in the middle of Times Square. Haven't watched wrestling since the Snuka Era. Walked in elegantly wasted (Jimmy's Corner!), watched skinny guys walking like bodybuilders, women get smashed through tables by hulking dudes on the tube, a 9 year old kid dance vulgarly on the bar during a Run-DMC/WWE video. Hundreds of TV's alternating between large orange men beating other large orange men, and graphics swooshing around during the breaks. And the people were INTO IT! OH YES! Vince McMahon is the genius of our time. Hundreds of years from now, he'll be regarded as we do Shakespeare. The place made me feel insane and nauseous. FIVE PEOPLE'S ELBOWS! - S.G.

Tasteless defines this entire place. The food is tasteless garbage; the people are mostly trailer-park trash; and the service is nonexistent. Save your money and your minds. - L.W.

Two Words: Tourist Trap. The best part of visiting WWE is getting drunk and stealing turnbuckles from the gift shop. Bartenders are obviously recruits from Acme Bartending School. Forget about a buyback. - K.C.

XVI (Sixteen)
(Avg. of 3 reviews)
16 First Ave. (between First & Second Ave.) 6.7 8.0 5.7 6.7

Comments - Appeared it was reaching for something, but not quite achieving it. Music less than desirable. Crowd was decent, most appearing to be in groups of four or more. Nice exposed brick walls. - A.R.

While it's way downtown on 1st and 1st, this dark bar has a energy you can feel inside it. Maybe its the live DJ spinning the some of the best hip-hop music I've heard in a while on the main floor, or the brightly colored mosaic walls downstairs with another DJ spinning and a small bar for the crowd down there. The service is a little slow but if you can get one of your friends to get the drinks you can relax on one of the many plush comfy couches this bar has to offer... - D.M.

There is a cool new party on Tuesdays.  The DJ's play old school everything. Not as crowded as the weekends.  A nice relaxing night with all the hits of the past. And its FREE too. (you need ID to get in).  I love the soft light from all the candles (very intimate) -

642 Tenth Ave. (between 45th & 46th St.) 7.5 9.0 7.2 9.2

Comments - What a well kept secret this place is. Long bar, lounge in the back & the most beautiful bar bathroom I've ever seen. - J.M.

One of the many new spots that is revitalizing the Hell's Kitchen nightlife scene. The dark, candlelit lounge area in the rear is quite cozy. The bathroom here is nicer than in many people's homes! Who would ever expect to see a chandelier in a the bathroom of a Hell's Kitchen bar? - S.M.

Still on an out-of-the-way stretch of 10th Ave. (although maybe not for much longer), this place has some of the best decor I've seen. Be sure to check out the ceiling above the bar as well as the private booths in the back.   During the traditional Happy Hour, this place can feel deserted, but a little later at night you can find anything from trendier locals to post-theater crowd to lesbian make-out sessions.  Be sure to order one of the oddly compelling blue drinks they serve in a martini glass. - J.S.L.

This dark, cozy little bar tucked between 45th and 46th Streets on 10th Avenue is great for a post-show drink or a long sit with friends over multiple cocktails. The staff is friendly (though service can be very slow after 10:30 P.M.) most nights when the place gets jumping, and the bathrooms are probably the cleanest you'll find in New York short of a 5-star hotel. The bar is, over all, 80% gay, and mostly gay men, although the stray straight or lesbian couple stumbles upon the scene now and then. There is very little attitude to be had here, a refreshing change. - A.Y.

Bar Address Atmosphere Decor Service Bathroom
Yabby's 265 Bedford Ave. (N. 1st & Grand St.), Williamsburg, Brooklyn 8 8 4 7

Comments - Patio bar in Williamsburg, right on the new Haight Street east (bleagh), good old Bedford Ave. A couple years ago it was a gas station. Now, as is everything else in the nabe, it's a bar catering to unemployed .com's and art pretenders. Happily, it's a good one, mainly for the large front patio that once held the gas pumps. The bartenders are pretty people and don't know what they're doing, but if you're a 2-ingredient or beer person you'll be okay with patience. People are generally outgoing, and there's a slight tinge of 'hook up', more than a lot of other bars in the area. It's trendy, but not insufferably so -- people are there to have a good time, baby. Another fine feature is that, as it faces the street, it gives the adolescent 'open container' thrill without the mandatory court appearance. - S.G.

Ye Olde Tripple Inn
(Avg. of 6 reviews)
263 W. 54th St. (between 8th Ave. & Broadway) 7.0 5.7 7.5 5.0

Comments - It's a cheesy, no-frills kind of bar with excellent holiday spirit and a good, varied beer selection. A great place to come hang with a group of friends. - F.J.

Enter a time warp that takes you back several decades to a New York before Disney, Giuliani, and the rest. Small dark bar up front, back room with checkered table cloths, reasonably priced drinks, live band on Monday nights. Suzie Felber hosts Felber's Frolics, a comedy revue, every Saturday night. - S.M.

Heard it said that Siberia is the least pretentious bar in Midtown but it comes second to Ye Olde Tripple. Check out the One-Armed Urinal push-ups in the mens room. -A.E.

The Trip, as it's known, is a rare New York bar. Located in Midtown, it's neither a dive nor a tourist trap. Decorations from every holiday are on display 365 days a year. Recent renovations means the bar is bigger, the floors shiny new and you don't need to fear a dart in the face when you walk in the door. The food is good, affordable and the kitchen surprisingly spotless. Best of all, a FREE 10 piece big band plays on most Monday nights, with a well known leader, Tim Ouimette. There's also FREE comedy show on Saturday nights with Felber's Frolics. Hosted by a hilarious brother & sister team, this show now regularly draws big crowds. The day has its own vibe... neighborhood regulars mix with corporate types and Letterman staff. FYI: The day bartender and the day waitresses are far warmer than the night staff. I've seen bars come and go but this is a keeper. Bathrooms could be better, but waddya gonna do? - F.D.

The Tripple is a haven from the turbulent Manhattan rat race. It's much like a neighborhood bar one would find in any small town, only it's smack right in the middle of the city. The service is friendly, the place has unique charm and the price is reasonable. - T.W.

A fine old New York bar with loads of atmosphere. The food isn't gonna put anyone else out of business, but it's reasonably priced and reasonably good. Sadly, the kind of place that has almost become extinct in New York City. - G.L.

Yogi's
(Avg. of 8 reviews)
2156 Broadway (76th St.) 6.9 2.8 7.8 2.5

Comments - Although the bar is a bit different, if you look at it just right, it is a diamond in the rough. I went there with two of my friends and had somewhat of a good time. The bartenders were outstanding. I will go back.   BTW....There was a dart board and the jukebox was free ( it just takes a while for your selection to come around ). Try it again. - T.M.

This is a great place to go before an Allman's show at The Beacon! - P.A.

This place is substance without form. The fun of going there is enjoying the people. The girls who work behind the bar can create the most charming, raucous, rip-roaringest good time you ever remember (if you can still remember). They get the girls dancing on the bar. They get everybody blitzed. And if they like you, the buy backs come fast and often. My favorite nights are Wednesday (Steph is working). She is funny, hot and a great girl to bend an elbow with. Friday is Amy and Liani who are the original party girls. And Saturday is Steph (again) and Tereza who is a Bronx girl with a capital B, they don't take lip from anyone but if they like you they can't do enough for you. - P.G.

Great little hole on Broadway! Do shots, drink beer, drop peanuts, hit on the gorgeous bartenders, and if your a woman.. hop up on the bar, whip off your top... and give a little dance!! During the week its pretty quiet, but when the weekend comes, it can get pretty wild!! Oh... don't forget to use the bathroom (Just don't touch anything in there.. there's bound to be some Cooties!!) My kind of dump! - M.L.

Heaven on Earth. - C.M.

A redneck bar on Broadway NYC? A potentially dangerous clientele. I'll call the female bartender 'tough' to be polite. Cheap prices ($2.50 for a CAN of Coors Light). I guess they're afraid of some violence being committed with bottles. All the signs and pictures on the walls are crooked. The bathroom fixtures look like they're going to fall apart. Tunes played by customers on the jukebox must be approved by the bartender. Peanut shells on the floor are a nice touch. Several TV sets (one a small black & white). I'm sure somebody must like this place since they have remained in business. - T.K.

Mad, me and my friends come over to NYC every other year from England and of all the bars in the city this is where we head first. Get there when we come over, the bar staff have always been fantastic esp. Liani, Steph and Ashley, You will remember us if you've been there when we have. - from Andy, the Bear, Swerver, Spud, the Brief, Fingers, the Diode, Angus and the leader. - A.R.

He (Andy) forgot to mention that Big Nicks is over the road after you stagger out of Yogi's at 4 in the morning with the best part of a bottle of Wild Turkey swilling round your system. - S.N.

Comments - Great bar on Ninth Ave. (mid 20's-30's crowd)....Up and coming neighborhood. Good place to hang out and relax (big screen TV, lodge-like lounge with open fireplace, big couches). Beautiful bar maids. Good food. - S.C.

This place is the best place to just hang out with friends on the sofas and chew the fat. It has the unique distinction of being a place you could go to as a local or for a Saturday night. Drinks are reasonably priced, service is the only thing that lets it down. Very slow. - D.D.

It looks a little cooler than it is, but still not a bad place to check out in Midtown. The staff is fairly attitude-free and attentive, although the bartenders are sometimes not too knowledgeable about drinks that don't have the ingredients in the name. Live DJ and televised sporting events make for a slight cognitive dissonance. - J.S.L.

This is a bar/lounge which seems to be more club than pub. It features a dark lounge with couches and a fireplace, brick walls, a high ceiling, stationary bar stools, and a DJ. It draws a loud, trendy, twentysomething and thirtysomething clientele. It has a limited beer selection. The prices are expensive and the service is good.  -T.K.

Zarela's 953 Second Ave. (between 50th & 51St.) 6 6 5 3

Comments - This Mexican cantina on the Second Avenue strip attracts a mixed (all ages) after-work crowd. It has no TV, and features low-playing Mexican music, munchies on the bar, a low ceiling (smoky), and miscellaneous Mexican decor. Space is tight. There is a bar and dining/cocktail tables on the main floor, and a dining area on the second floor. The prices are somewhat expensive and the service is so-so. The bathrooms, located on the second floor are adequate but hard to access. - T.K.

Zone 13
(Avg. of 2 reviews)
13 - 163-16 Northern Blvd., Flushing, Queens 1.5 1.5 3.0 1.0

Comments - This is a very dark, low key sports bar located near the Broadway LIRR station. It features several TVs (1 large screen), video games, a pinball game, and a jukebox. The prices are reasonable ($3 for a bottle of Coors Light) and the service is OK. It doesn't draw many people. If you want to wait for a train in a local bar, try Jimmy Mac's, the Velvet Cup, or Anna Reilly's instead. The unisex bathroom is one-at-a-time (and small at that). - T.K.

I think the original rating for this place was far too generous. Calling Zone 13 a dive bar is being far too generous, this place gives bars a bad reputation just by existing. The last time I went there I had two flies in my drink (and not fruit flies, either), and the bartender (a short, fat obnoxious and very drunk woman dressed in black) kept coughing all over the counter and the drinks she served. The entire place smells rancid, and the bathrooms seemed to be used more as a discreet spot to snort cocaine than to relieve yourself. The patrons are simply atrocious, and I think the prices are less than reasonable. You're honestly better off going to the deli around the corner, buying a six pack and brownbagging it than wasting your time and money on this dump. Avoid at all costs. - K.P.

Zuni
(Avg. of 2 reviews)
598 Ninth Ave. (43rd St.) 7 7 9 5.5

Comments - Zuni is a small American cuisine restaurant tucked away on 9th Ave.  Monday nights is a great time to sit at the bar, though, and listen to the live jazz band.  Very relaxed, laid back atmosphere--a cool way to end an early weekday evening. – D.H.

This is a small bar/restaurant (more restaurant than bar) located in Hell's Kitchen. It features music played low, a low ceiling (smoky), partially exposed brick walls, a dark oak wood bar, munchies on the bar, no TV, and interesting paintings on the walls. There is live jazz music on certain nights. It seems to draw an eclectic clientele. The prices are reasonable. The Irish lady behind the bar was friendly and efficient. The bathrooms are adequate but located in the basement (down a steep staircase). - T.K.
