This is a low-key bar & restaurant on the eastern
end of Dune Road. The bar area is an outdoor deck overlooking
Shinnecock Bay. It draws a much older clientele than the 3 bars
at Tiana Beach. There are soloists singing at the outdoor bar on
certain days. There are no parking nor entrance charges. There
are dining/cocktail tables are on the deck. The prices are
reasonable and the service is good. It is most popular in the
early evening (sunsets look good from here). The menu, primarily
seafood, is very good. The bathrooms are adequate. - T.K.

This is an Irish pub/restaurant which seems to draw an older, after-work clientele. Well lit, it features a TV, low volume piped-in music, high-top bar tables, a low ceiling (smoky), a dining area in the rear, glazed glass partitions, a private party room in the basement,
and miscellaneous Irish décor. There are munchies on the bar and there is also an after-work buffet. I found it to be dull and unexciting. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. The bathrooms are adequate. -

a very popular, bustling (crowded) restaurant located near the

Jake's Dilemma, only with food. Two levels of fun and great beer
specials. Best for Happy hour gatherings. Love that Foosball!!! - T.S.
Great bar located in the West
Village. Two floors of fun. Friday happy hour is great with the
whole bar half price. Saturdays draws a good college clientele
for a guaranteed good time. Good looking girls congregate here
too. The food is pretty good for bar food. Got to try the Sliders,
like White Castles only better. - J.D.
I lost my passport there and no one cared! Then the manager
rushed me out of the place when another patron tried to help me!
- W.C.
OK, here is a typical Friday night: It's me and my partner in
crime "the assh". So we go to Off The Wagon for happy
hour around 6. So we get our first set of $3 mugs of L.I. teas
and then finish with a shot of Blackhaus. Now the fun begins. The
girls are aplenty, mostly secretary's from Staten Island and
Jersey. They seem to be friendly and talkative maybe because they
answer phones all day. These broads believe anything we tell
them. Anyway, we move on to the $6 pitchers of brew. Can't go
wrong there! This bar is cool 'cause there are lots of
bridge and tunnel [chicks] and nerdy guys, which is good 'cause
that's less competition for us. On a typical Friday ranging from
6pm to about 3am (that's 9 hours but we're pros, so don't try to
be us) we hook up with at least 3-4 women, so you can't go wrong
here or there. The bartender is usually more [drunk] than us,
so we all have a good time without paying for hardly anything.
God bless America!!!! And Rudy! -B.M.
Typical college bar. High
ceiling and mezzanine. Very interesting signs and pictures on the
walls. Partially exposed brick walls. Very cheap happy hour
prices ($2 for a bottle of Coors Light). Decent service.
Bathrooms are adequate. - T.K.
Great place for happy hour but the ladies bathroom stinks! The
guys bathroom is ten times better. How do I know? Because I've
had to use [it when] the girls' line was so long. The so-called
security guys hit on you and the DJ claims to take request but
won't play yer song 'til you walk out the door. For some reason
this place seems to attract a lot of Long Island meatheads. But
Happy Hour is nice. - O.E.
The atmosphere was great. A lot of Long Island girls here. It was
a fun time. I went with 6 buds and we took the advice of a
previous poster and he said $3 mugs of Long Island tea...B.S. They
were 6 dollars and the sign says bar 1/2 off Monday through
Friday 4-8. We were there at 5 pm. The only thing
half price was the pitchers. The bartenders down on the lower
side were snotty but there was this one girl there with an
American flag bandana. She was good looking. We played darts
(real darts, not electronic). We met a few chicks and got totally
trashed. All in all it was a good night. By the way, don't go to
the Pennsylvania hotel across from MSG, it is over priced and
dirty but that's another story. J.S.
Great atmosphere...jukebox or DJ, fooseball, pool, darts...great pub food (sliders and gravy fries...mmmmm), sports on the
TVs, great happy hour...good drink deals throughout the week (ladies night, $7 pitchers)...can get really crowded but if you hit it at the right time you should find a nice place to sit or stand. - J.P.

Popular mid-town after work bar with a great outdoor garden - one
of NY's best kept-secrets. - S.A.
While most of the block houses fancy restaurants, casual attire
is welcome at O'Flaherty's, a cozy Irish Ale House on Restaurant
Row in the Theater District. The front has a long wrap around
bar, with friendly bartenders, while the back room houses a pool
table and live acoustic music many nights. Many performers from
the local Broadway musicals pop in here after their shows, and
some are known to get up and do a number with Michael Butler, who
performs on Friday and Saturday nights. Also features a so-so pub
menu, a nice backyard garden in warm weather, a live tree that
grows through the bar ( ! ) and bathrooms that are wallpapered
with Irish tabloid headlines. - S.M.
Great black and tan, also tried the hot toddy, the grill variety
dish was yummy. T./R.A.
Nice, pleasant place to have a few drinks after work. Staff is
pretty very friendly. Did have a few problems dealing with a few
flies in the indoor portion of the bar, and the bathrooms could
use work especially the same-sex one near the bar, but overall a
friendly Irish Pub. A.S.
Irish pub on Restaurant Row. Irish/Folk music is pleasant. Good
bar menu (burgers, etc.) Gets crowded with after theater crowd.
Interesting decor. - T.K.
Great place for a happy hour, plenty of room and we had the
nicest waiter. We always have a fabulous time there. We'd love it
more if they would please get a little help with the food. - R.W.
This was a very friendly and fun place to be. The staff was all
very helpful and the bartenders were fun, interesting and full of
cultural trivia. One bartender in particular was extremely
entertaining with his authentic Irish accent, especially to this
Oklahoma traveler. - P.S.
O'Flaherty's is the best spot in NY when your looking for fun. I should know .. I go there all the time. The service there is off the hook. Ask for Tadhg or Joe when you go in tell them Daragh sent you. One of the greatest things to ever happen to New York. - D.Q.

Comments: Fun Irish bar and restaurant which attracts patrons from the old country and the upper east side, plus nurses from the nearby hospitals. The bar area tends to get very crowded near the entrance, but fight your way through and you can find a spot in the back. Has a dining area which also serves as stage and dance floor for live cover bands Thurs. - Sat. nights. Good pub for Guinness & darts. Features large exotic tropical fish tanks. - S.M.
Great date bar. Good food,
atmosphere & great bands with a dance floor. Packed on
weekends, loads of fun. - J.M.
F.k.a. "Flannagan's", it's been here forever. It gets
crowded (bottlenecks) by the entrance. Good thirtysomething crowd (many familiar faces from the Jersey Shore). Also,
doctors, nurses, etc. from nearby hospitals. Irish tourists are
also directed here by various hotel concierges. Live music
certain nights. Well lit. Reasonable prices. Friendly and efficient Irish bartenders. Bathrooms
are adequate. - T.K.
Born and raised in New York City and this is one of the few bars
I LOVE going to. - J.S.B.
I've only been there on Karaoke nights (Sunday and Tuesdays).
Great fun/great staff....very friendly. - B.J.
Stopped in for a late Saturday lunch; within two hours we were
regulars. Within four hours we were in need of help walking.
Great neighborhood joint, terrific service. As a native New
Yorker who has been away for many years, this place brought it
all back. - B.C.
The bar staff and crowd are great but the owner is [not]. If it
weren't for him I would heartily recommend the place. The
atmosphere would vastly improve if he would [go] back to
the Emerald Isle. - J.F.
Very friendly crowd, great food and it is a great place to relax
after work or go wild (depending on your mood). The bands are
terrific, especially East Coast. They have a great game room in
back with pool tables and huge mesmerizing fish tanks throughout
the bar. The staff is great, especially Dave the bartender. -
L.P.
This bar is a lock for a good time no matter what kind of mood you're in. They often have live music if that's what you want. The bar area is always crowded around the big game on the TV's. If it's too crowded up front, you can always go to the
back room which always has ample elbow room as well as a pool table, an average jukebox, and a few TV's. Great for a happy hour,
pre-gaming with your buddies or picking up girls (a group that usually consists of trust fund princesses and college babes just out to have fun). Definitely a place to check out multiple times. - B.A.
Friendly Irish pub that draws a mix of young and old clientele. TV's in several corners of the bar and a couple of big screens. Prices are affordable and the menu has a variety of options to choose from. Bathrooms could use some work. - A.S.

wooden Irish bar on the upper east side, the younger sister of

Irish restaurant in rear, fireplace in front lounge and a juke

Gone are the good old days of relaxation and good music, and

Great after-work bar in mid-town. Bartenders are extremely nice, manager's always there and also very nice. Heard the Shepard's Pie is great also.....also has an upstairs where you can eat in a quieter atmosphere.
-K.M.
The name of this Midtown Irish pub, opened in spring 2001, is enough to make one curious. It obviously
draws an after-work clientele of local office workers. It
features a large bar, numerous TVs for sports viewing, and
dining/cocktail tables on the main floor. There is a smaller bar
in the (non-smoking) second floor dining room. The prices are
reasonable. The Irish bartenders

Literally is an old town bar, over 100 years old (est. 1892).
This bar was used in the intro. to the old Letterman Show on NBC,
and it's crowd is as cool as the old show used to be. Long brass
bar with wooden booths and tile floor. One unusual quirk, that
upstate NY residents may enjoy (or at least reminisce) : Gennie
Cream Ale on tap. Also serves pub food. - S.M.
This Union Square area bar/restaurant
is a classic. It seems to draw a good, mixed (all ages)
clientele. Well lit, it features several TVs, low playing music,
a mahogany bar, wooden booths, and a high ceiling. The prices are
reasonable ($3.50 for a bottle of Coors Light). The bartenders
are friendly and efficient. The bathrooms are adequate. - T.K.
A must for anyone who wants to experience an authentic old-time
New York saloon. The menu has things like liverwurst sandwiches,
the food is surprisingly good and the beers and drinks are very
reasonably priced. Gets pretty crowded after work, but the wait
staff seems to handle it well. - G.T.L.
It is the best bar in NY. I went there for 7 years until, for some reason, I was asked to go somewhere else. I guess I'll never know the reason. Go there and say, "Hello!" to the Meaghers and their kin. Every employee there - family member or not - is a great person. - L.M.

Midtown Irish bar, opened in '98, with dining room upstairs. Live
Irish music on Saturday nights and Sunday evening. Mixed crowd,
Irish & non-Irish, white collar & blue quaffing together.

A very hopping after work spot. Young cool working crowd - packed
on Thursdays & Fridays. And live Irish music sesiuns on
Saturdays & Sundays. - J.M.
A somewhat small Irish pub. Dining room upstairs. Bathrooms,

Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Friendly and efficient
Irish bartenders. There is live Irish and American music on
certain nights. Reasonable prices ($3.50 for a bottle of Coors

This is our favorite Irish pub. The people are friendly and
the bartenders and wait staff are superb. O'Neill's makes

In my opinion this is the best bar in New York City!! From the
staff to the atmosphere O'Neill's can't be beat. A must on St.
Patrick's Day. Be sure to get in early for a fantastic Irish
breakfast and might have the opportunity to meet some famous
Irish politicians! The best pint of Guinness you'll ever

This is several places all in one. There is a good size
barroom, 2 dining rooms, a dance floor/standing area, and a well
lit 'sports room' with several TVs and a link to OTB. The night I
was there, it was very crowded with a rather trashy clientele.
The music was blasting obnoxiously loud. The prices are
reasonable, but the service that night was terrible. I'm told
that the clientele is usually better, but I don't think I'll
return to find out. The bathrooms are more than adequate. - T.K.
The "complex" was quite nice. I was there on a weekday,
and was told by friends that the place should be avoided on
Fridays and Saturdays because of overcrowding. I sat in the OTB
room with five of my friends and enjoyed the best Buffalo wings
east of the Anchor Bar (Buffalo, NY and the originator of the
Bwing). 12 flavors of wings ($.15 each), fast service, good
choice of beer, and Monday Night Football, made the experience
very nice. The service was fast in delivering, but slow in
getting the check to me. The place is great on a weekday, with
plenty of room at the bar, enough Irish accents to make your eyes
smile, and plenty of friendly bartenders to give you what you
want. All in all, a pretty good place to go. - J.L.C.

"What should we call this bar that we just opened on Orchard

One of many arrivals during the wave of Lower East Side bar
openings in the late '90's, Orchard, a dark, narrow bar, would be
mistake for a closed retail store by day. At night, look for the
dimly lit terrarium in the window, since there is no sign in
front. Once inside, you'll find a place typical of the L.E.S.

Comments - Just
off Broadway, O'Reilly's Pub is like one of the few bars left in
this area near the Empire State Building. I scored it 5 for
atmosphere & decor because the original old neon sign
glimmers out front and has character in this age of corporate
chains. But it scores 5 and not 10 because the inside is totally
redone and looks like any yuppie bar-eatery Irish-theme chain
(like Houlihan's). The drafts were $6 each which was no deal, and
the tall waiter was rude and condescending when I asked what was
on tap. It was the only bar around though so what can you do but
bend and take it. - C.H.

This is a spacious, dark, trendy, popular (crowded) bar/lounge in
Hell's Kitchen. It features several TVs, a jukebox, a low ceiling
with fans, high-top tables, cocktail tables, a curtained-off
lounge in the rear, a decent bar menu, interesting art work on
the walls, and a Cappuccino machine behind the bar. The beer
selection is extensive. The prices are reasonable ($3 for a
bottle of Coors Light) and the service is friendly and efficient.
The bathrooms (located in the basement) are one-at-a-time.

Just an average bar, nothing special. Was there early on a
Thursday evening in June, it was already packed at 6:30 and
stayed that way till I left at 11:00, so I guess it must be a
popular hangout. Service was slow, but I can't fault our waitress
because we were seated all the way at the back, and it was
difficult to negotiate through the crowd from the bar up front
back to our table. A very noisy place, there was one woman there
who had the most annoying, piercing, high-volume voice that I've
heard in a long time. I guess she had to talk like that to be
heard above the din (I hope she isn't a regular!). Nevertheless,
everyone in my group had a good time. Would I go back? Probably
not. Not that there is anything wrong with Otis, it's just that
there are so many bars and restaurants on Ninth Ave...and I would
like to try them ALL! - R.K.
Wait service is bad as well as their gratuity policy. We had a
few drinks, one appetizer (group of 6), and were there for less
than 2 hours. They added a 22% gratuity to our bill. That
percentage is unacceptable, even for a restaurant - much less
for a smoke filled bar. - C.C.

This is a Greek
bar/restaurant located in Hell's Kitchen. Although primarily a
restaurant, it has a spacious bar area. It features brick
walls, ancient Greek decor, no TV, decent piped-in music, and two
dining areas (one in the bar area, the other separated by a
wall). While there is a good selection of Greek wines, the
beer selection is limited. It's a little expensive ($5 for a
bottle of Amstel Light) and the service is friendly and
efficient. The unisex bathrooms are one-at-a-time. - T.K.

This bar & restaurant is connected to the Coyote
Grill by a walkway on a dock. While there is a large outdoor
area, the indoor area is enough to keep it going all year. It
draws a younger clientele than the Coyote Grill. It's very
popular (as are Montego Bay and the Coyote Grill) on Fridays,
Saturdays & Sundays in the summer. The prices vary (watch for
the specials) and the service is so-so. The view of the bay (from
here and the Coyote Grill) is the primary draw. The bathrooms
(located inside) are OK except that lines form when it's crowded.

was, down on my luck after losing a packet at the Breeders Cup
when I walked into Paddy Reilly's on a Monday night for a couple
of beers. I left four hours later buzzing after a great time. The
music in the bar was brilliant, the bar was packed and I forgot
about the race horse, Galileo. I was amazing to hear such good
music and have such great craic on the first night of the week.
The owner/manager Steve is a pretty good guy and he even bought a
drink. See this place for yourself. - E.C.

Old Irish Pub atmosphere with great live Irish bands and always a
good pint of Guinness. - M.S.
Good Irish and American music most nights. Good, fun clientele.
Friendly and efficient Irish bartenders. Good happy hour prices
($2.50 for domestic beers). There is a cover charge after a
certain hour when there is live music. - T.K.
I had always heard great things about this bar. Quite frankly, I
was a little disappointed. The atmosphere is great but I could
not get past the general feeling of being packed in like sheep in
a pen. While the staff is friendly and helpful, good luck
fighting your way through the masses to get a beer. I can think
of several Irish bars far superior to this one. - T.B.
Friday and Saturday nights there's a cover, but it's a fun time. Really crowded, but generally good natured folks dancing and bobbing around Celtic-inspired tunes. During the week there's no cover, and the music, by-and-large, is very good, but a much lower-key environment. They pull a fine
pint, but it sets you back $6. Staff is friendly and hard-working. Some demented, smelly locals there, too, but otherwise, a great place for the low-maintenance crowd. -

This place is really bad. I think it used to be a hot
spot, but it's well past its prime. It was not very crowded on a Saturday night, and was full of weird couples who kept staring at me and my friends. The atmosphere was lame with everyone just standing around or paying the hefty price to sit down for bottle service. The live percussion was cool and the place is decorated nicely. The worst part was when this big nasty guy came up from behind me and slapped my butt as an introduction. Talk about classless. -

spot to see and "be scene". The front bar area
is small, but has a few small tables to sit back and people
watch. Due to the popularity of its restaurant, the bar always
has some activity going on. The bar is actually twice as long as
what they utilize, but they use half of it for a shrine of white
candles, producing a nice ambiance for the dining area. - S.M.

peanut machines, and bands later in the evening. There are happy

time for all bars in the town of Sea Girt is midnight. The

- Fun
fun fun! What a place this is! Great music, friendly staff,
dancing, spacious bathroom. One of the best spots in the city! -
J.M.
My favorite upper west side bar, the Parlour has a lot going for
it. As you enter, you are confronted with two bars to choose
from, left or right, plus a dining room with great food in back.
But wait, there's more! There is also a downstairs, with another
bar & lounge, providing live rock/dance music on Friday &
Saturday nights and comedy on Tuesdays. The service is excellent,
from the waitresses, to the bartenders, to the owners. And they
pour an excellent pint of Guinness as well. - S.M.
Reasonable prices ($3 pints of cider during happy hour).
Two bars and a dining area on the ground level. A lounge and bar
in the basement. The entertainment is usually in the basement.
Different clientele at different times (younger later at night).
Various entertainment venues - live music certain nights, comedy
on other nights. You can pick up a schedule of events at the
door. Friendly and efficient Irish bartenders. Bathrooms (on both
levels) have waiting lines later in the evenings. - T.K.
Overall great Upper West Side bar on Friday and Saturday nights.
Prices of beer are cheap, for us Yorkville types. Come bearing
your outfits from the latest J Crew and Polo catalogs. Oh, and
99% chance you'll run into a lacrosse buddy from the past. - M.K.
This bar was fun and all, but if you throw a $25 all you can
drink party, make sure they put what you get in writing; my
friend just had a party there and they promised her top shelf
open bar. When we got there, it was more like bottom shelf. After
the 5th drink I didn't mind, but its just the principle. - S.M.S.

Much older crowd and pretty boring. There used to be good
bartenders in this place a couple of years ago. The ones working

Nice place to hang out if you are a senior citizen. Very boring.
Unfortunately, the best thing about this place is the bathrooms,

A very good basic saloon. The food is good, I strongly suggest the Black Jack Burger or if you're really hungry, Irish Bacon Sausage and mashed potatoes. I found the service was always good. I worked around the corner from Conway's for 3 years and was there regularly for both lunch and drinks. I personally like the some of the former bartenders
over the current ones, but they are all professional. They sell enough Guinness so that it's never stale, (very important). If you're looking for a place to go meet friends and have a couple adult beverages and talk, this is the place. If you looking for music, lights and action, it isn't. - H.O'B.

This place has four rooms and a yard. I counted eight
bars. it also features several TVs, a pool table, darts,
shuffleboard, foosball, video games, an ATM, and various pictures
on the walls. I was there at about 6PM on a Saturday and only one
of the bars was open. The prices are reasonable (this was happy
hour) and the service was decent. The clientele at that time
seemed to be an assortment of unusual looking older patrons. When
I walked in, the jukebox was playing 'People are Strange'. That
seemed to sum up the crowd. It gets crowded with rowdy younger
people later at night. The bathrooms are barely adequate. -T.K.
Nothing pretty to look at inside and who cares about the bathroom when you are at a bar. They play the
Mets, have plenty of TV's, foosball, pool, shuffleboard etc. This place is as big as a hotel and if you've had too many, you might get lost. Great music, and great service. Don't sit at the long bar in the cabin where
Bill and Chuck serve, unless you are from the shore...and we will notice if you are not from the shore, Vito. Great bar for rowdy good times. Put your drinking face on and ask for a Zip. - S.M.

- Old
Greenwich Village standby which boasts the widest beer selection
in the city. Bare bones wood booths let you know that this place
is for serious beer drinking. Weekends become a mob scene, as it
is a landmark on the NY bar scene, and people come from all over.
Walls are decorated with a variety of beer labels, mats and
promotional items such as signs and mirrors, all highlighting the
eclectic mix of beers. - S.M.
Most extensive beer list. Always packed, good prices, fun. - K.D.
Good, sparse, efficiently laid out, killer selection of beers...
but what sadist put in the black & white bathroom tiles? NOT

Full of character, and not in the real-estate agent's way of
meaning! Full of beer... any type or brand - they stock it! Full
of people, and interesting ones at that, the bartenders and
customers are . .. interesting to say the least. A great place to
be. - A.C.V.
Great selection of beers from all over the world. - F. D.
Go there and see. I was there one Friday night. Someone puked in
the sink. I told the bartender about the incident. Within minutes
a kitchen help mopped the sink and the fresh smell of bleach
consumed the area. The choice between the smell of bleach or
puke? You decide ? - J.M.
Love it. I was there once on a Sunday it was quiet. I was told by
a regular to come on the weekend and see a different view of the
pub. I did. It was like night and day. The beer lovers come when
it is quiet and the party goers appears during weekends. All in
short, the people I spoke to love the 500 different beers on hand
and the atmosphere of the pub. I love the city and the Village.
There is no place I rather be then the Peculier Pub. I was there
this Sunday. Finished the Belgium section. I will start with the
German Weiss beer next. Cheers. - C.H.
Excellent bottled beer selection! - M.J.
Small place, way too packed and the bartenders really aren't that
nice. A very preppy crowd and the bathroom lines are out of
control. I really wouldn't go back. - R.P.
It's a Bleecker Street pub
with an extensive beer selection. It seems to get a young (NYU?)
crowd on Friday and Saturday nights. Bar area and booths.
Reasonable prices ($3.75 for a bottle of Coors Light). The
bathrooms are OK. - T.K.
Peculier Pub is so cool. It is the best place to start the night
off, get drunk and stagger over to Asylum or any other village
bar. Me and my friends have stayed for two hours sometimes. On
the downside, there's no dancing and its a bit touristy but who
cares. The drinks are pretty cheap and when you're drunk you can
have lots of fun, even with out-of-towners. - M.B.
BEER!!!! In all languages, in pints, in bottles, in cans, in
heaven! - D.K.
Having 500 Beers alone may sound like the perfect place for Hop
Heads, but Peculier is not all great. Don't get me wrong, the
dark, woody decor is great and the beer selection rocks, but the
atmosphere leaves a few things to be desired, especially on
weekend. It's on weekends when the beer drinking paradise is
marred by loud frat boys guzzling Coors Light (or Satan's urine,
as I call it). The staff is also not always pleasant or
efficient. It's a good place to start an evening while the palate
is fresh and the dick population is still low. When the place
gets ugly and all the beer starts to taste the same, move on. The
Village has an abundance of cooler places. - A.S.
Whoever said this was the best bar in NYC must be underage, like
everyone else who goes here! If you have a younger bro/sis not of
legal drinking age, bring them here. Good beer selection, prices
a little high. -M.V.
More fake I.D.s than cute faces. Loud. Overworked, but likewise
unfriendly bar wenches. Great selection of beers, but go during
off hours. - J.N.
Whaaaatttt??? This is a kick ass bar: great service (tara!), a wide selection of beers, and nice
atmosphere. Anyone who is a true drinker, is welcome here! - S.N.

Renowned as the "oldest original bar in NYC",
established in 1864, this Gramercy Park landmark is famous as the
sight where O. Henry wrote the "Gift of the Magi". More
recently in the news as the place where supermodel Vendela had
her wallet stolen, Christmas 96. Sentimental spot at
Christmas time, nevertheless, where the decorative white lights
really get you in the holiday mood. Since it so tiny, it is often
crowded, but it is a friendly crowd, so say hello to your
neighbor, and enjoy the atmosphere. - S.M.
This popular (crowded) Gramercy Park area bar/restaurant was
first established in 1864. It seems to draw a clientele of all
ages. It features several TVs, low playing music, and many old
furnishings. The prices are reasonable ($4 for a bottle of Coors
Light). Getting the bartenders' attention can be a
challenge. The bathrooms, located in the basement, are adequate.

The Pig is a great spot for theatergoers and drinkers alike.
Excellent food with reasonable Manhattan price tags. One problem,
if you go with two people at the height of dinner rush, you're
likely to get seated at a four person table with two other people
you don't know. Privacy and elbow room are at a minimum. But hey,
you might make some new friends! An alternative if its crowded
would be to wait, or head to Langan's across the street and see

Straining too hard to appear "upper crust". Glass
partitions at the bar a nice touch. One bartender, obviously
sullen, appeared to consider serving patrons a personal favor. -
R.F.
Cool, modern Irish bar. Lots of bar space, great after work
hangout. - J.M.
Too bright and fake. Your everyday "meat market"
kind of bar. Nothing original about the place that sticks
in your mind after you leave. - L.B.
Formerly Sheila Clancy's, this is a nice, recently refurbished
Irish pub. Like its sibling on W. 47th St., it seems to attract a
good, mixed (all ages) clientele. There is a good buffet. It
features several TVs, mellow music on the jukebox, chandeliers,
dark oak wood bar and walls, frosted glass partitions, high-top
bar tables, dining tables and booths, and miscellaneous Irish
decor. Space is a little tight. The Irish bartenders are friendly
and efficient. The prices are reasonable ($4 for a bottle of
Coors Light). The bathrooms are adequate. - T.K.

One of the last of a dying breed. The Piper's Kilt or "P & K's" as it's known to regulars is a fine place for a
burger (the best in the city) & a beer. Popular after work drink spot &
pre-night on town meeting place. Bartenders are quick, friendly, & funny to a
man! Prices are very
reasonable. Brunch is served on Saturday & Sunday. Direc TV & unlimited Bloody Mary's!
That's how you spend football season. - P.W.
This bar is a great place to hangout on a Saturday afternoon or evening. The

west side entry of this trio is a small, dark, lively bar. Space
is tight. The music is from the radio. There is an interesting
assortment of wall decor. It seems to draw a combination of local
office workers, tourists, and theatergoers (probably an overflow
from the W. 57th St. theme bars). The bartenders are friendly and
efficient. The prices are reasonable. The subway-style bathrooms are one-at-a-time and very

PJ Carneys is one of my favorite local bars. I don't know if you know this but they completely renovated this year and it came out great. What I love most about the bar is its atmosphere. Every time I go there I seem to meet new people. For some reason that place just gives such a positive vibe and that is why I keep going. it's pretty tiny. - J.M.
This is one of a chain of three small (space is very tight) Irish
pubs. Like its two siblings, it attracts a good after-work
clientele of all ages along with a certain number of Irish
people. It features several TVs, one large screen, good tunes on
the jukebox, dining tables, video games, a low ceiling (smoky)
with fans, and miscellaneous Irish decor. The Irish bartenders
are friendly and efficient. The prices are reasonable. It takes a trek down a long, steep
staircase to reach the one-at-a-time bathrooms. - T.K.
The Day time bar person is great, a
good looking girl and on the ball. Eat your hearts out. Bathrooms
are down stairs. The kitchen is small but the food is real good
at a great price. Night time bartenders are real characters. Just
don't ask for a fancy drink. A fun place. - P.F.
Too small, bathroom sucks. Irish get larger pints than Americans.
Jukebox okay. Day bartender was crabby at best. - F.E.
Great wee pub to have a drink in and can spend several hours
having a bit of craic with the bartenders who all know how to
have a bit of fun. The only reason that the Irish get more in a
pint than the Americans is because Irish people can hold their
drink. - G.M.

Great bathroom! - M.T.
This is a very popular (crowded) historic New York pub that was
first established in 1890. While they have managed to keep the
place up very well, it still has that OLD New York look about it.
(It may qualify for landmark status). There is no music at all.
Well lit, there are picture windows, high ceilings, a bar and a
dining area in the rear. It draws a wide array of people.
Tourists are steered here by hotel concierges. The bartenders,
dressed in butchers' smocks, are friendly and efficient. The
prices are reasonable. The large fixtures are usually a topic of
conversation at the bar. - T.K.
After several visits, I found Dennis and Harvey to be two of the
friendliest and best bartenders in the city. Killer jukebox
featuring great jazz from the 20's to the 50's. Great burgers and
always a friendly crowd at the bar if you feel like a chat. It is
worth a trip just to see the urinals in the men's room that
Sinatra supposedly said were the largest he had ever seen. - B.R.

The food is very good, bartenders very attentive. Drinks are
reasonably priced and you get buy backs! Pretty good jukebox, but
even when it's not playing, they have a great music track. I
always have a good time there. Just a bathroom comment -- there's
only one stall each (men's and women's) but they are always clean
and well stocked. - T.S.
This is
an Irish pub that opened in January 2001. It seems to draw local

floor, and a pub menu. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. The bathrooms are
barely adequate. - T.K.
P.J. Kelly's is not a stiff or stuffy bar. It has a 'Cheers' type atmosphere where everyone with a good attitude seems to be welcomed. The bartenders are very professional, chatty and knowledgeable. The bathrooms are adequate (clean but

I didn't like this place at all, the restaurant is in the back
away from the bar and the after-work crowd. If you like to be in

This place is okay, nothing special. It's not very big, so it
probably wouldn't be the most comfortable place on a Friday. It
could use a jukebox to liven up the place. Drinks were kind of
expensive, $12 for a Harp & a vodka tonic. I've seen better
Irish Pubs in Midtown. - A.S.
Only been there on a Tuesday...Relaxed atmosphere, where you can
have a drink with a friend, without yelling, that's a plus.

- The
oldest and largest of the Playwright trio, it has two floors of
drinking and dining. The bar areas and dining areas are separate.
The main floor seems to be a more active bar scene. It has pretty
good tunes on the jukebox. It draws a clientele of after-work,

bartenders. Reasonable prices.

This place was interesting. The

Formerly The Merry Ploughboy (never liked that name), the bar has

cozy warm environment. The staff when I was there was a mix of
experienced older male bartenders and cute young females who were

was fast and efficient. If the bar carries anything forward it
will probably be it's dart team which I imagine is where the name
came from. Rocky the owner is a nice guy and makes the rounds
regularly and is a nice change from owners who either stay only

snugs for private conversation, great music by a DJ up in the
corner, and top notch friendly bartenders all add up to make a
visit to Puck Fair an enjoyable experience. Downstairs bar for
more intimate atmosphere, or private functions. - S.M.
Unbelievable Irish food, a giant beer selection, and a great
service, all this in the most Celtic Gaelic atmosphere...simply
awesome. - F.L.
Brilliant! Great drinks, mighty band and the finest Irish
Breakfast, I thought they might have smuggled my Granny in! -

The atmosphere as far as decor goes, is great. The staff are
wonderful most of the time. As for the clientele, most are
typical out-of-town yuppies and assorted other forms of spoiled
brat life. As a 22 year resident of the neighborhood, I
discovered Puck Fair while looking for a new local hang-out,
where I could give the little lady and me some occasional
breathing room. Unfortunately, Puck fair is not that place.
Because of the clientele, it will never have that neighborhood
bar kind of feel. This is unfortunate, as the transients will
come and go, but the locals will remain your loyal customers. The
Saturday evening music seisiuns are fabulous. You'll hear top
notch musicians. Hopefully they're not fools who are providing
entertainment without being paid! - P.M.
