Patio bar in Williamsburg, right on the new Haight
Street east (bleagh), good old Bedford Ave. A couple years ago it
was a gas station. Now, as is everything else in the nabe, it's a
bar catering to unemployed .com's and art pretenders. Happily,
it's a good one, mainly for the large front patio that once held
the gas pumps. The bartenders are pretty people and don't know
what they're doing, but if you're a 2-ingredient or beer person
you'll be okay with patience. People are generally outgoing, and
there's a slight tinge of 'hook up', more than a lot of other
bars in the area. It's trendy, but not insufferably so -- people
are there to have a good time, baby. Another fine feature is
that, as it faces the street, it gives the adolescent 'open
container' thrill without the mandatory court appearance. - S.G.

- It's a
cheesy, no-frills kind of bar with excellent holiday spirit and a
good, varied beer selection. A great place to come hang with a
group of friends. - F.J.
Enter a time warp that takes you back several decades to a New
York before Disney, Giuliani, and the rest. Small dark bar up
front, back room with checkered table cloths, reasonably priced
drinks, live band on Monday nights. Suzie Felber hosts Felber's
Frolics, a comedy revue, every Saturday night. - S.M.
Heard it said that Siberia is the least pretentious bar in
Midtown but it comes second to Ye Olde Tripple. Check out the
One-Armed Urinal push-ups in the mens room. -A.E.
The Trip, as it's known, is a rare New York bar. Located in
Midtown, it's neither a dive nor a tourist trap. Decorations from
every holiday are on display 365 days a year. Recent renovations
means the bar is bigger, the floors shiny new and you don't need
to fear a dart in the face when you walk in the door. The food is
good, affordable and the kitchen surprisingly spotless. Best of
all, a FREE 10 piece big band plays on most Monday nights, with a
well known leader, Tim Ouimette. There's also FREE comedy show on
Saturday nights with Felber's Frolics. Hosted by a hilarious
brother & sister team, this show now regularly draws big
crowds. The day has its own vibe... neighborhood regulars mix
with corporate types and Letterman staff. FYI: The day bartender
and the day waitresses are far warmer than the night staff. I've
seen bars come and go but this is a keeper. Bathrooms could be
better, but waddya gonna do? - F.D.
The Tripple is a haven from the turbulent Manhattan rat race.
It's much like a neighborhood bar one would find in any small
town, only it's smack right in the middle of the city. The
service is friendly, the place has unique charm and the price is
reasonable. - T.W.
A fine old New York bar with loads of atmosphere. The food isn't gonna put anyone else out of business, but it's reasonably priced and reasonably good. Sadly, the kind of place that has almost become extinct in New York City. -
G.L.
Formerly a haven from the usual yup joints, this bar has nose-dived into the hang out for a plethora of yuppies and dim bulbs. It's a good thing the beer is reasonably priced, cause you'll need the buzz to drown out the
horrendous juke box! - F.R.

Although the bar is a bit different, if you look at it just
right, it is a diamond in the rough. I went there with two of my
friends and had somewhat of a good time. The bartenders were
outstanding. I will go back. BTW....There was a dart
board and the jukebox was free ( it just takes a while for your
selection to come around ). Try it again. - T.M.
This is a great place to go before an
Allman's show at The Beacon! - P.A.
This place is substance without form. The
fun of going there is enjoying the people. The girls who work
behind the bar can create the most charming, raucous,
rip-roaringest good time you ever remember (if you can still remember). They get the girls dancing on the bar. They get
everybody blitzed. And if they like you, the buy backs come fast
and often. My favorite nights are Wednesday. The bartender, Steph, is funny, hot and a great girl to bend an elbow with. Friday
is Amy and Liani who are the original party girls. And Saturday
is Steph (again) and Tereza who is a Bronx girl with a capital B,
they don't take lip from anyone but if they like you they can't
do enough for you. - P.G.
Great little hole on Broadway! Do shots, drink beer, drop
peanuts, hit on the gorgeous bartenders, and if your a woman..
hop up on the bar, whip off your top... and give a little dance!!
During the week its pretty quiet, but when the weekend comes, it
can get pretty wild!! Oh... don't forget to use the bathroom
(Just don't touch anything in there.. there's bound to be some
Cooties!!) My kind of dump! - M.L.
Heaven on Earth. - C.M.
A
redneck bar on Broadway NYC? A potentially dangerous clientele.
I'll call the female bartender 'tough' to be polite. Cheap prices
($2.50 for a CAN of Coors Light). I guess they're afraid of some
violence being committed with bottles. All the signs and pictures
on the walls are crooked. The bathroom fixtures look like they're
going to fall apart. Tunes played by customers on the jukebox
must be approved by the bartender. Peanut shells on the floor are
a nice touch. Several TV sets (one a small black & white). I'm sure
somebody must like this place since they have remained in
business. - T.K.
Mad, me and my friends come over to NYC every other year from England and of all the bars in the city this is where we head
first. Get there when we come over, the bar staff have always been fantastic esp.
Liani, Steph and Ashley, You will remember us if you've been there when we have. - from

He (Andy) forgot to mention that Big Nicks is over the road after you stagger out of Yogi's at 4 in the morning with the best part of a bottle of Wild Turkey swilling round your system. -
S.N.
In NYC for the Mule shows (12-30/31), and after my "so-called-boyfriend" passed out in the hotel after the 1st
night's show I ambled on over to Yogi's which was directly between our hotel and the Beacon. It was initially tough to get a drink because I wasn't a guy, but got much service after hooking up with several of NYPD's finest. I found out two things at Yogi's: 1) ".....I could leave my hat on......" (ala J. Cocker) shaking my money maker up on the bar; and 2) my belly button holds 2.4 ounces of
tequila. Much love to Yogi's for making a crappy "relationship road
trip" a bit better! - K.R.
A classic watering hole, discovered on a pre-Allman Bros. show at the Beacon Theatre...now a regular stop when I'm on the west side. - T.N.
