Comments - Great
music most nights - especially Saturday nights. Cheap and
tasty home cooked food is served right up until 4 a.m - where you
can snuggle up in a candle lit corner and go
unnoticed. Great for a dance and a laugh!! Full
of Irish. - C.M.
A gorgeous Irish pub in
Sunnyside, Queens. A huge library and roaring (gas) fireplace. No
jukebox, and really bad taped music. I'm hoping that more people
frequent the bar and we can change the music. Otherwise, a
gorgeous place to relax with a Guinness amongst the mainly Irish
people. Bands at night, haven't seen one yet. - K.K.
Happy place where the beautiful and friendly people meet. Nice
place to relax or go wild. Staff is great but the place needs to
build more of a client base. - K.Z.
An awesome place to be with your mates and have a pint. The bands
are some of the best bar bands around, including Mr. North.
Friday and Saturdays get crowded so try to get a stop early. The
bartenders are friendly and great with the buy backs. You have to
go just for the atmosphere itself. It has without-a-doubt the
best bar interior in Queens. The only bad thing is that sometimes
the music is a bit loud. - K.K.

-This is
a great neighborhood bar. Teddy's might be the real reason
why everyone is moving out of the city and into
Williamsburg. After you've had these wings with a Brooklyn
Lager you'll be hooked. - M.P.
One of the very few places in Williamsburg to 'see the game'.
Laid back, seated eats in the back, fairly roomy. A basic,
genial, theme-less bar. - S.G.

- East
Village British pub and restaurant, easily recognizable with
three big red phone booths out front, reminiscent of the London
booths which are being phased out back home. Funky candle-lit
lounge in rear features poetry readings on Monday nights. Good
singles scene at the bar. - S.M.
The name comes from the red telephone booths in front of the
place. This English-style pub draws a good,
thirtysomething clientele. It features several TVs, a jukebox,
marble high-top bar tables, dining/cocktail tables, a
dining/lounge room, brick walls, interesting art work, and
outdoor tables. The prices are reasonable. The beer selection is somewhat limited. Getting the
bartenders' attention can be a challenge. The bathrooms, located in the
basement, are
adequate. - T.K.

Comments - I have lived in the East Village for almost a decade, and while I have been known to frequent the neighborhood dive-bars, its refreshing to enter into an open space where you don't feel
claustrophobic, where you can bring a group of friends with out being confined to one
unappealing corner. As far as the bathrooms go, hands down the nicest bathrooms in a mile radius. -

Texas Restaurant & Saloon |

Comments - This is
a Tex/Mex restaurant & bar located
in the theater district. They serve fancy "Texas sized"
drinks (margaritas etc.) in 16 oz. cowboy boot glasses. There is
country music piped in. There are high ceilings with fans,
partially exposed brick walls, and picture windows with views of
Broadway. There is a small bar with a TV and a fairly large
dining area. There is an additional room upstairs. The
decor is miscellaneous cowboy fare. They draw from local
office workers, tourists, and theatergoers. The beer selection is
limited. The prices are somewhat expensive and the service is good. The bathrooms,
located
on the second floor, are adequate, with interesting wallpaper.

Comments - The
Rockefeller Center 'outlet' is a two story one (like all the
others in the chain locally). The bar and some tables are on the
ground floor. The second floor is a dining room. Service is tough
(especially during the holiday season). The clientele is heavily
tourists (again, especially in December). Prices are what you'd expect from this chain in this
location. The decor is OK inside, but the real decor attraction
is that it has large front picture windows that let you see
Rockefeller Center (the tree). The bathrooms are more than
adequate. -T.K.

- Great
place to meet up with some friends after work. - D.M.
Before Turtle Bay, Opal, Sutton Place and the rest, there was T.G.
Whitney's. This midtown bar has been drawing a fun after-work crowd since it opened in
the late nineteen-eighties. It has a long bar with top notch bartenders and staff.
They plays great music, plus karaoke on Fridays. Whitney's is
also the NYC home of The Billy Lawlor Band, of Jersey Shore fame. -S.M.
A veteran of this area, it attracts a young, after-work crowd on
Thursdays and Fridays. The bartenders are friendly and efficient.
The prices are average. The
DJ (located in the kitchen) spins tunes, but dancing is not
allowed. Saturdays are usually reserved for private parties.
There is an additional private party room upstairs. There is a
minimal buffet and chips on the bar. Small lamps are on the bar
(please don't steal them). It's the same ownership as Windfall.
There are partially exposed brick walls. - T.K.
Low key atmosphere. Great place to meet up with friends. Their
"beer specials" are limited. "Buffet"
consists of wings and veggie sticks. The service was great. Shots
are too expensive. - S.Y.

Sports bar in Murray Hill that attracts a crowd in their mid to late 20's. Four TV's to view the games. Doesn't serve food, but most people just bring in
pizza from the outside. Attracts a mostly male clientele but there are some cute females scattered amongst the crowd, although they aren't that bright. Prices are reasonable,
and there are numerous mid-week specials. Female staff is reasonably attractive. Bathrooms
in the basement are a claustrophobic's worst nightmare. Not as good as Joshua Tree or Bar 515 to watch games, but if those places are too crowded, this serves as a reasonable alternative.

Great mini-club with a 2 for 1 happy hour and small but nice roof
top deck that makes it a great after work bar. Stock up on
drinks, though, as the service could be much better. - S.A.
Best bar in the city. Great clientele filled with good looking twenty-somethings. Music is always good.
-R.B.
Ok...so I was dragged here for the first time and now I'm hooked! I went with a bunch of guys and after finding out the place had a $10 cover I was hesitant since I had no idea what the place was like. The bouncer let the two girls in free if all the guys paid to get
in. It was nice to see a bouncer that was willing to negotiate! The music is
excellent, not one of those places that plays 3 hip hop songs then 3 house then 3 80's...the DJ mixed it all up and everyone seemed to be having a blast. The only reason I gave the service an 8 is because I wasn't buying drinks, but it
didn't seem like I had to wait long for them. I never had to wait longer than a minute or so for the bathroom and they were fairly clean. The crowd is diverse and not too young or too old...and there is plenty of room with two indoor floors of music and a roof...which I didn't go out on but will once it gets warmer!!! Again...I recommend this place highly!!
-S.M.L.
I had
a great time and the bar was definitely hopping. However, the
men's "piss trough" needed a little more protection
from the outside than strings of beads. Also, the ice was never
replaced in the "piss trough" after our steaming hot
piss melted it. There is a definite need for better lighting on
the roof. - V.C.

Great new bar on

won't find food there. But you will find a nice variety of
bottled and tap beer, and a happy hour special. Great decor

Great place to gather with friends and family for a pint, good
tunes and a game of darts in a welcoming, relaxed
atmosphere. The friendly, personable bar staff are a nice
bonus. S.F.
Despite the name, it doesn't seem to draw as many college
students as I expected it to. It seems to draw a good
twentysomething and thirtysomething clientele. This dark, long,
narrow English-style pub features several TVs, a jukebox, darts,
a low ceiling (smoky), brick walls, and a copper-top bar. The
prices are reasonable. Getting

- Early evening crowd starts off with a healthy population of single men of the over 90 year old set talking to their 8 oz glasses of beer. Later on, the crowd is a younger one that has been where they need to go and is now where they wanted to go the whole time. Chris pours a fine Guinness. Decent jukebox (not great.) The partition that actually used to separate the bar into two rooms; the front for the men and the rear for the women (complete with their own entrance) still stands. Female restroom is also a fairly recent addition. - C.
The Pigeons recently had a fire burn down the front area of the bar. I can't wait until they re-build. This is my favorite spot in Brooklyn. They've got well-lit dartboards in the back, sports on the televisions all the time; live music around 10 or so every Friday and Saturday night, no cover. Once the bartenders get to know you they'll treat you right. The locals are among the friendliest in Bay
Ridge. - T.D.
Great bar for everything from after work to a fun night with friends. 3JP is not your typical Bay Ridge bar. You won't find a sausage party of tanned kids with gel-ed hair who love crappy club music.
New juke box, new atmosphere, same 'ole great bartenders, same 'ole great locals. They have live music too! I'd have to say it's Bay Ridge's
best secret, but let's see how long that lasts. When you have a good time, word of mouth gets around pretty quick. - X.M.

Comments - Great date spot. Was voted most romantic in the MurphGuide viewers poll in 2000. A cool bar area up front, near the brick oven (great pizza). Booths and tables packed with dates and local diners in two adjoining rooms complete the main level. The downstairs lounge is a hip east village den that hosts various open mics, DJs, comedy and live music on various nights. Friendly staff. - S.M.
The
restaurant, located on the ground floor, draws a mixed
(all ages) clientele. There are tables and booths inside and
tables outside. The beer selection is somewhat limited. The
prices are reasonable and the service is good. The small bar features a high

Boomers, a sports bar with at least 10 TV sets (1 large screen)
for watching games and playing interactive trivia. Exposed brick
walls and red vinyl seats. Pool table, jukebox and video games.
Decent bathrooms in basement. Private party room in basement.
Good service. Reasonable prices. - J.K.
Was voted #1 sports bar on city search last year. Nice place to
watch every game on cable (at once.) Go on Saturday for college
football. They have alumni groups who really get into the games.
Monday Night Football is also a good night. Whitney works both
days. She is a honey and has a lot of fun with the crowd. And you
can't go wrong with the burgers or the wings. - P.G.
Good sports bar atmosphere. Place gets very crowded, especially

bar with a great atmosphere and friendly staff...Music is a mix
of Top 40, Hip Hop and R&B. Nice mix of locals and college
students make this a fun place to spend the night. Go on

coolest around. - J.D.
Great place to party with friends. Lots of young people
fill up the place and keep the bar lively. Cozy place to
get loaded. - M.A.
The whole atmosphere is perfect for anyone who is under 30 with
the music geared towards the likes of this age group. And
its packed solid on Friday and Saturday Nights. The place
has a modern image with sports on the TV at all times and it is
extremely well kept. The service is an achievement in
itself due to the fact that no matter how busy it may be the bar
is staffed accordingly and the bartenders never keep you waiting
and you can proceed on your task of getting loaded in this fine
upper east side establishment. A.C.
This is one of those bars for the prepsters who may have a
diploma but are still mentally in college... probably just
looking to find some booty for the night. -S.B.
Although a hot, crowded, sweaty hellhole on Saturday nights, you
can't beat those two Crestwood drunkards behind the bar. They
make sure you can't see by the time you leave, which makes you
forget the fact that there's 500 dudes for every girl. I highly
recommend this place to anyone who likes to get wasted or just
likes to be around lots and lots of sweaty dudes!! - P.D.
Good post college crowd. Much cheaper prices compared to other bars (like Turtle Bay, Opal, Sutton
Place) and great bar menu.
And great looking bartenders. - T.S.
The bartender on Saturday nights is the best bartender in NY. He is the hottest thing you will ever see. -
T.C.
Great music, attentive service, a solid drink menu, and somewhat morally casual girls are all negated by the fact that it is always at least 115 degrees in here. If you go on a night when it's - GASP - only 85 degrees, then it may be worth it. Otherwise, there are so many better bars (with tolerable temperatures) within a 5 block radius. - B.A.
Tin Lizzie's is a great bar that hosts an attractive, young, preppy, twenty-something crowd. Great music that allows for dancing and singing along with the rest of the bar! Things get good around 11:30-12, especially
Thursday-Saturday. Not too expensive and very welcoming! - C.C.
Great music all night long!! Draws a crowd of recent college grads that want to drink and bounce around a bit. Words of advice-send the girls to the bar, better pours and bigger glasses. -
M.P.
DJ Fat Moyno is the only reason this place still exists. The women go crazy when he rips his shirt off and does bar slides. A good crowd with a lack of scumbags. A good time on Friday and Saturday night. -
J.F.
This place is junk. Too crowded, meatheads all over the place, get ready to have your ass grabbed if you're a chick. - B.C.

- If you
like happy Irish bars, this is your place. Great music, friendly,
attentive staff, great atmosphere pretty bathroom. One of my

A very nice bar... in fact very difficult to fault. Friendly
atmosphere, good looking decor, decent service and a toilet
that looked more habitable than some of the places I've lived. -
P.W.
Great food, great beer, great atmosphere, great bands, great
staff - what more can I say? - H.W.
I've been to several Irish Bars in NYC, and after reading the
reviews on this site, was looking forward to this bar, but
honestly have to say that I was disappointed. The interior in the
bar as well as the bathrooms remind one of a castle and makes the
place seem a bit outdated. The staff, however, was very friendly
and eager to please. Prices are on average, about $5 per. For a
bar in Midtown West, I guess it would be solid, but in comparison
with NYC, just okay. - A.S.
Alas...if only this bar could be located on a small street on the
Upper East Side, instead of the middle of a mass transit
monolith. I wandered in to this stunningly beautiful
establishment for the first time on a rainy Sunday. The place had
just opened for the day; and it was me, another patron, and the
bartender. We watched satellite TV broadcast of English rugby,
and had a good-natured argument about "football vs.
soccer". I was instantly in love with the place. My next
visit was 8pm on a Friday night. I was one of 5,000 people in
the place (well, it seemed like that many) and I waited 30
minutes for a pint. But...you have to take it like that. That's
the price you pay for love. - P.M.
You cannot find better food anywhere in NYC. The chef is the best around. -
M.G.
This is a very popular (very crowded) Irish pub. While the
clientele early in the evening is primarily Penn Station
commuters and Madison Square Garden pre and post event revelers,
it takes on a different life later. There is live music on
certain nights. It features several TVs, a jukebox, a dining
area, high-top bar tables, a low ceiling (smoky), and Irish
Limericks adorn the walls. The prices are reasonable. The Irish bartenders are friendly and
efficient (considering how crowded it gets). The bathrooms are
more than adequate. -T.K.

This dark SoHo 'neighborhood' bar attracts a fun

This was the best bar we went to in NY. We're from Australia and this place just reminded us of the kind of places we drink at when we're at home. We immediately felt welcome. Barry the bartender was a complete darling. He remembered your drinks and your names after only one round. It's a great place to meet people. Everybody talks to everybody and at the end of the night you feel like they're all old friends. Take it from us... you've just got to go there! - J.S.

Although this is a hall, many of its functions are open
to the public. Don't be misled by the name. It's not fancy and
it's on the second floor. The room which hosts the public
functions is fairly spacious and has 3 bars. The prices are
reasonable (they vary depending on the function as do the
bartenders). There is usually a band (I heard the McCabes there
recently) and/or a DJ with dancing. Obviously, the crowd varies
with the function. - T.K.

- Great place for kicking back after work, or to watch a game on the weekend. Relaxing, but far from dull. Overall a place you will find yourself going back to. -

HUGE
after work Thursday spot for mid-town yuppies in suits. - J.D.
Mid-town American bar and restaurant (bar food). Gets good young
crowd, although more laid back than the meet markets like Turtle
Bay and Sutton Place around the corner. Putting the sports pages
on a bulletin board over the urinals, while not original, is
always a welcome improvement to graffiti or plain white tiles.
Has a juke box, 6 TVs, plus darts & pool table in rear game
room. - S.M.
A bit better than the other bars that make up the midtown east
scene as they have drink specials, guest bartending and kick ass
potato skins. - S.A.
The prices are reasonable and
the service is good. It features numerous TVs (one large screen),
a low ceiling (smoky), a dart board, a pool table, a jukebox,
interesting photographs on the walls, popcorn at the bar, and
partially exposed brick walls. There is live music on certain
nights. The happy hour 4-7PM Monday thru Friday features $3
drinks. It gets very crowded with a good, twentysomething and
thirtysomething clientele. Wednesday night is ladies night. - T.K.
Nothing special. Service personnel were quite friendly, as buy
back occurred when the should have. Food was not worth ordering
again, and I'm sorry, but $3 draft are any thing but a drink
"special." I personally would rather go someplace else
around the corner. - K.S.
Good post college crowd. Much cheaper prices compared to the
other bars (Turtle Bay, Opal, Sutton Place) and great bar menu.
And great looking bartenders. Especially that guy Peter w/ the
blue eyes that works on Fridays. - J.S.
Although a little low in headroom I was still able to enjoy myself. The service and food was good. Mellow dining area with plenty of fun and music at the bar. The DJ plays all styles of music, keeping everyone singing. -

Penn Station - LIRR level | 7.3 | 7.2 | 8.0 | 7.5 |
Comments - Tracks is
a refreshing addition to Penn Station. Clean and spacious, with a very
cool train themed decor throughout the bar. Even the back door is shaped
like a subway car. Finally, a place to make waiting for a train more bearable. -
J.M.
This is quite an improvement over Charley-O's. The place is kept much cleaner (both the bar area and the bathrooms). There is somebody at the door screening who comes into the place. It is a long bar. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. The bathrooms are adequate. It is a spot to wait for a train, nothing more. -
T.K.
It's a get them in, serve them and get them out type of place. But what else would you expect in Penn Station. If your beer is almost empty they will quickly come over to you and ask if you want another. Prices are fair, and place is well kept. Worth the visit. -
P.J.
Tracks gives any person a good reason to go through Penn Station. Service is pleasant and efficient, the crowd is a very varied mix, and the prices are fine. The best thing about the bar though is...the food. Nowhere in Penn Station will you find high quality food combines with an ideal bar atmosphere. Definitely recommended, even if you don't travel to Long Island. -E.D.

popular (crowded) Gramercy Park area sports bar draws a
lively, twentysomething and thirtysomething clientele. Well lit,
it features several TV's (one large screen), good tunes
(not too loud), a long bar, an after-work buffet, high-top bar
tables, a dining area in the rear, and miscellaneous decor. The
prices are somewhat expensive.
The bartenders are friendly and efficient. The bathrooms, located

- Tiny
Irish bar on the upper eastside. It is a comfortable hideaway
from the upper east side strips of Second & Third Ave. Due to
its side street location, it's populated more with locals than
the weekend partiers from L.I. & N.J. that frequent other
bars in the neighborhood. My friends call this place "The
House of the Rising Sun", because sometimes you don't get
out of there until morning, and because "it's been the ruin
of many a poor boy (and God, I know I'm one)". You literally
can't walk in to the place when it gets crowded. They do not
serve food, but Guinness is almost like a meal, right? The
bartenders are outstanding. - S.M.
Great place to go and have a beer. The bartenders are always attentive and buy back. The owners are always there with a smile. A
worthwhile trip. - A.L.

Comments - I go
there once a year for the post Belmont Stakes party. It's a
blast. I certainly wouldn't expect the place to be like that
normally, but I must review it based on that day. It's owned by
the same people who own Maggie's Place & St. Andrews' in
Manhattan. It's a fairly small place with a normal size bar area
and two dining areas which are separated from the bar area by
walls. The big party is in the parking lot in the back. They set
up a makeshift bar that looks like an ice cream truck. They only
seem to serve tap beer at that bar. There is a tent-top with
tables and chairs and a DJ and porto johns. It is mainly families
with young children early (before 7pm). There are hot dogs &
burgers (free for kids, but adults must pay) on the grill. All
this catering to the families with children is obviously an
attempt to appease the neighbors. When the last race lets out
(traffic is a mess) the 'real' party animals (of all ages) start
to arrive. I hope
they continue to have it in future years. The DJ goes to about 11pm. After that, many leave, but some go inside. The bartenders
are friendly and efficient (one of them even called a cab for
me). The bathrooms are more than adequate. - T.K.
I frequent this establishment 8 nights a week, give or take. It's a cool place to down a few on a week night with some wings or a plate of calamari. The weekends are cool enough for a local place. The head bartender is a funny dude...he speaks with this fake Irish accent and calls me
farm boy. He's actually Lithuanian. Don't ask him for Vanilla Stoli because "the only thing ya' put in
Guinness is more Guinness!" When the bar starts to empty out late-night, the bartenders break out
carafes of wine and whoever is remaining at the bar participates in a
"carafe race". After smoking some potent ganj the other night, my friend walked into the kitchen and started yelling at no one in particular, requesting that "no pickles" be placed on the plate. Occasionally, some random dude looking like Horatio Sanz hangs out and gets all severe. Two thumbs up for the Holy Trinity. -

I
really like this place. I've been back a couple of times, and the
people are young and fun professionals. Great service! - R.D.
One of the premier bars in the East 50's, which continues to be a
popular bar hopping spot for young singles. This one gets packed
Thursday through Saturday, with lines forming on good nights. Has
a bar and restaurant on the main floor, but the upstairs lounge
is the main attraction here. A gutted apartment building has been
transformed into a high-ceilinged lounge where good looking
singles come to hook up. Staff may be gruff at times because they
are probably overwhelmed by the crowds of drunks they must serve
nightly. - S.M.
Thursday and Friday get a bit too packed for my tastes, but on
Tuesday night they have an acoustic guitar act (Artie and Mark)
who are fantastic, wide range of tunes, and usually a good sized
crowd. Many are regulars, but they welcome newcomers with open
arms. - C.L.
This is a very popular (crowded) sports bar/lounge located on the
Second Avenue strip. It seems to draw a good, twentysomething and
thirtysomething clientele. There is a lounge with a large screen
TV upstairs. The ground floor features a long bar, several TV's,
a DJ, high-top bar tables, and ceiling fans. The prices are
somewhat reasonable. The
service is OK considering how crowded it gets. - T.K.
Its a nice bar, but too many clown boy yuppies in there. The girls
are easy. - P.L.
Went here on a Thursday. Wasn't really impressed. This place
crowds up easily and the lack of space is a detriment. Bartenders
are overworked as you can tell they get tired of serving the
plethora of customers and as the night wears on it reflects in
their attitude. Bathrooms are kind of small. Drinks are
reasonably priced. Seems to be where the "meat market"
crowd goes that doesn't want to go to Sutton Place. - A.S.
I loved this place. It was originally the "meeting
place", but we never left. The crowd was mature, yet young
and wild. The bouncers were flirty, yet not creepy! Great place
to meet people and have a good time with friends. If you like to
dance or just hang out and catch up, it's the place for you.-
J.D.
Attracts a rather young crowd, but worth the effort to find those in their mid-20s,
making this a decent place to pick up. But you can just hang out without any hassle if desired. -

Formerly the Mad Hatter and the Bay Club, this is the
eastern sibling of the place on Second Avenue in Manhattan. There
is a front deck and a large yard overlooking a bay. The clientele
is a decent, twentysomething and thirtysomething crowd of mostly
NYC summer visitors. Obviously, this and its Manhattan sibling
advertise each other. The is a sunken dance floor and lounge type
booths inside. There are benches on the front deck and in the
backyard. It has 2 indoor bars and 2 outdoor bars. The parking
lot is spacious. The drink prices are moderate to expensive and
the service is good. There is an 'employees night' every Sunday. Cabs are waiting outside. - T.K.
A definite must go. The best night is
Saturday night. Mostly dance/hip hop/pop. Has two indoor bars and
two outdoor bars. Never a problem with service and buybacks are plentiful. There is a front deck and a large yard overlooking a
bay. The is a sunken dance floor and lounge type booths inside.
There are benches on the front deck and in the backyard. The
front deck serves food all night long. More of a summer crowd and
the Frozen Yogurt and Blackhouse shots are their specialty, so

Atmosphere: Look up the next time you are at Twin's and ask where "All those holes came
frome?" Well back in the day, police from Midtown South came into Twin's and let go a "Round" or two while they had a pint...I think there are 193 holes.
You should count.
Decor: The place was a fun "dive" until the owners refurbished the place in
1993, (done totally by Irish craftsmen.) And it was done traditional!!!
Service: George was a bartender there until he was 72! And to this day I draw from what
I learn from him as a professional. Bill, the day guy on Sat. and Sunday's is a class act. Tommy, who is the bartender Mon- Fri. is the man! Tuff Irish bar guy on the out side and
Gentleman 100% on the inside.
The Twins themselves....nothing but the greatest! And the Chef...my Hero. I worked there two years after I was a patron.
I now live in the Outer Banks of NC and to this day I draw from these fine folks, on what an Irish
Pub (and Irish spirit) should be!
Ps. I now own my own place in the outer banks! - K.C.
I visited this Irish pub at 3pm on a Thursday. It is a two-room place with a bar area and a dining room. There are several TVs. There was no music playing. It wasn't very crowded at that point. Its main business is Penn Station commuters and MSG pre and post event revelers. The drinks were reasonably priced. The burger platter was so-so.
The service was good. - T.K.

Comments - 200 Fifth recently renovated and now occupies a huge storefront on Park Slope's Fifth Ave. Its name is its address. Home of some fun specials and OUTSTANDING, CHEAP burgers! Great place to watch the game with the bar side (as opposed to the restaurant side) having a ridiculous amount of various sized TVs (including very big ones)! With a combination of great food, fair drink prices, and huge TVs, you can't go wrong! Staff can be great or a little iffy (depending on who is working and how crowded it is). The place also features live music and DJs on certain nights. -
