Comments - I love this place! Cheap and yummy food and great drinks that are hard to find elsewhere, I'll keep coming back again and again! – M.B.

This small, out of the way tapas place has excellent, cheap food, great decor and a cool downtown crowd. They don't reserve so get here early or be prepared to wait forever. - S.A.

Very nice place with very good tapas. The Serrano ham with tomato and the smoked salmon montados were excellent as was the chorizo. Spanish beer selection could be better though. But then again, it's Spanish beer. I will definitely go again. - J.C.

Comments: Long lines on Saturday night, get there before 11 or after 2. Horrible bathroom lines, encroaching onto dance floor space! -J.D.

One of the best, most diverse and fun bars in the city. Also one of the most crowded so go before 11 or don't go at all. - S.A.

Hot place to meet people and have a good time if you don't mind the crowd. DJ plays a mixture of music from disco, dance, hip hop. The two hot nights are Thursday and Saturday. Not crazy about Friday because I don't like the DJ that night. - J.J.

OK...this bar, aside from the door service, is terrible. They are way way over priced, way way way overcrowded, and the drinks are weak and the service is slow. They don't serve Red Bull, only 180? They pride themselves as not having a sign? and being "hip". Gimme break. Skip this place and good luck after 11:00, you'll wait over an hour to get in, then two for a drink. - J.V.

Fridays & Saturdays are great! A lot of fun, good mixed single crowd....Great & fun music. - J.S.

Nancy Whiskey Pub
(Avg. of 4 reviews)
1 Lispenard St. (Sixth Ave.) 6.3 5.3 7.5 3.5

Comments - This small dive of a bar, which seems to be some kind of a border between the trendy areas of SoHo and TriBeCa, seems to draw a scruffy clientele. It features several TVs, a jukebox (not played too loud), video games, shuffleboard, a high ceiling with fans, and a high-top bar table that is partially inside and partially outside. The prices are reasonable ($2.50 for a bottle of Coors Light) and the service is decent. The one-at-a-time bathrooms are graffiti laden. - T.K.

Neighborhood bar which serves mainly the people who work in the area: Telephone Co., Cops, Firemen, Court Officers, Postal Workers, etc. Tends to be a dark room, although light levels have increased since the owner added the French doors in front. VERY friendly bar staff and clientele. Ambience is carried into the graffiti-filled bathrooms which are small, serving only one at a time. Atmosphere is gruff, but privacy is assured. Occasional celebrities stopping in are not allowed to be harassed. (A customer is a customer). Best burger in town! Chef is one of the best around! -J.C.

Great place if you are waiting for that pay day as well as a great place to start off. The pitchers are cheap ($6 on Thursday and $9 on regular nights of Bud and Bud Light). Mixed crowd with very low ceilings. Recommend starting off there but not staying, even though it does have a tendency to grow on you. The service is great and friendly. If you are a guy the women situation struggles and never take a girl on a date there. - B.C.

The best part about this place is that they serve my favorite beer, Double Diamond. Not too many places in NYC have it, but Nancy does-on tap. Add in the great burgers, nice "quiet" and dark atmosphere, and it's a great place to get started. - S.F.

Comments - Great looking barmaids in thong bikinis make this financial district "dive" great for anyone looking for a couple drinks and wonderful scenery after a rough day on the market. - P.A.

Don't be surprised if the place is a sausage fest when you walk in the door. The gorgeous bartenders wearing thongs and skimpy tops give this place the feel of a strip club. The bathrooms are small, allowing for only one at a time. The prices are adequate, with a bottle of Bud going for $4. If after a half hour you are tired of watching Wall Street types ogle the ladies, but have not had your fill of T&A, finish your beer and head to New York Dolls, which is not that far away. - T.B.

An institution in lower Manhattan. Formerly known as Kenos, this place has been here something like 20-30 yrs. Customers are 99% male. Bartenders are all gorgeous 19 yr olds from Staten Island, with rare exception. They wear bikinis or skimpy outfits and don't mind being ogled by their customers. Occasionally they will dance on the bar and accept tips like a stripper. The place is always crowded for their two for one happy hours. Otherwise Thursday and Friday are the busy nights. There is usually a line for the bathroom. It is a complete dump; one john, no urinals, room for one person only. Worst part of the place for me is closing time. They announce "last call", the barmaids disappear and they close the bar 5 minutes later. I hate being rushed out. - M.T.

Comments - I went there recently at about 5pm on a Thursday. The clientele looked like local office workers of all ages. The bartender was playing 70's music on the stereo system.  Besides the bar area on the main floor, there was a staircase leading up to a second floor (I assume a dining room) and a mezzanine with cocktail tables (I assume this is where the live music is located). There were high-top bar tables along a brick wall downstairs. It features a high ceiling with fans, several TVs, and a decent looking bar menu. The beer selection was somewhat limited. The prices were a little high. The service was friendly and efficient. The bathrooms are adequate. - T.K.

Decent after work bar. Gets crowded around 6-8pm on any given week night. Good food and great service. - S.Y.

Neptune Beach Club (Hamptons)
(Avg. of 3 reviews)
70 Dune Road - East Quogue, NY 8.0 8.0 6.0 5.3

Comments - Like its neighbor, Summers, this place is an indoor/outdoor beachfront bar. The clientele - It looks like the Town of Riverhead emptied it's jails. The prices (for both drinks and parking) vary with the weather. They like to use the line "when it rains, we pour" to describe its bad weather day 2-for-1 drink specials. The music is obnoxiously loud (The deejays at Neptune and Summers try to outdo each other). The grossness of the bathrooms varies from day to day. Still, the beach scenery is great. - T.K.

If you like to drink and dance in the sun, then this is the place for you. You can take your drink down to the beach, or jump on the roof and dance. Depending upon the weekend you will find either a kick-ass DJ, or a pretty good band. Drink up and enjoy. - K.H.

The crowd is definitely "Strong Island": muscle guys with tattoos and no shirts, women with bikinis and heels. Music is pumped up techno/bass remakes and club hits. Great location and the place is crowed. Drinks are little pricey, but poured strong and in a larger than average size cup. Women are everywhere and better than average looking. - A.T.

Comments - This bar has a ton of TV's. Will be great for NFL Sundays. Located near the Sutton Place/Turtle Bay section of bars in midtown east, draws more of a young preppy male crowd that gathers to watch the game or just hang out. Prices are kind of expensive. Lighting could be improved, as well as the bathrooms, but overall not bad. - A.S.

I met a bunch of people after work one night and we were having such a great time, half of us ended up staying til closing. Nessa has some of the coolest bartenders in the city. - M.D.

Yeah, so I was hanging out with my friends and I closed my eyes for a few seconds and this goon-squad of bouncers comes over and throws me out for "sleeping in the bar".  - T.R.

I have been to Nessa on weeknights and weekends. Its better on Thursdays. There is a decent crowd, but better looking on Thursdays. The bartender who throws the napkins all the time is funny. The bathrooms can be a little gross sometimes. - T.M.

Reasonable food with a fun crowd. Service excellent. - G.C.

Great bar, gets very crowded on weekends. Lots of attractive men. Thursdays are the best night to go. - C.D.

As a once-underage college student, Nessa's bouncer stole my priceless fake ID sophomore year, and refused to give it back. Needless to say, after holding a grudge I went back (at age 22) and had a great time. Friendly bar staff, fun upstairs room. Still don't like that bouncer, though. - J.H.

Comments - The Karaoke on Tuesday nights if fun, if you can SING!! - C.D.

A friend dragged me to this bar one Sunday night and I soon became a regular. Great hang out for football lovers (soccer!). Attracts a lot of European folk, especially Irish. Drinks are reasonably priced, and they run lots of specials. Karaoke prevails on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights and everyone in the bar gets really into it and sings. Other nights they usually have a pretty good DJ. I hate to write this because it could be detrimental for the females, but what keeps me coming to this bar is the selection of very attractive male clientele and the minimum amount of beautiful women. - E.C.

Lots of fun...a lot of room to dance...great bartenders...good atmosphere...easy to get to. They definitely need a coat check. For those single people out there - there are always lots of hotties here! :) One of the few bars in the city that has its act together on St. Patrick's Day, service-wise. I've been coming here since they had their " 2 for 25 cent " specials on bar drinks. - E.T.

All you need to say: 7am Sat. mornings, at Nevada Smiths, beer, and Manchester United! Guaranteed to be one of the best times you will ever have with your clothes on! - U.100.

This large, hall-like bar seems to draw local sports fans of all ages. It features several TVs (one large screen), a jukebox, video games, a high ceiling, and high-top ledges against the walls. Neville's
(Avg. of 2 reviews)
62-24 Woodhaven Boulevard, Rego Park, Queens 6 6.5 5 4.5

Comments - This place reeks. No, I really mean it. It simply reeks. Mr. Neville has got to be one of the worst bar owners in the city of New York. With such other outstanding and now gone establishments as cobblestones of Woodside and T.J. McCarthy's of Flushing this man simply doesn't learn that he should pick another area of business to invest poorly into. He is the worse thing to happen to any bar he touches. He employs the worst and fires staff that have proven track records in the neighborhood so he can remodel a bar in his own visage. That's fine and good if it had ever worked for him. Horrible staff, food, location and entertainment. I'd comment on the crowd but there is none. The best feature is the bathroom. - T.S.

Cool for karaoke. - P.B.

The New Irish Circle
(Avg. of 4 reviews)
101-19 Rockaway Beach Blvd., Far Rockaway, Queens 7.0 8.5 8.0 6.2

Comments - Its a great bar for Irish music, great food, and a lot of different beers on tap. Very clean and recently done over from inside-out. very classy bar. - R.M.

This place was totally redone, inside and out, and looks a lot better than the Friday night fight club it was a few months ago. They improved the menu and beer selection and opened an OTB window. Some of the OTB gamblers look shady, but all in all, this place rates a return visit. - M.S.

The New Irish Circle has a fun menu and serves up the goods late. Awesome DJs and bands till 4am spark the night-owl in you. For fun during the day and twilight bet on your favorite horses! Great place, great service and you'll be back. - V.S.

This place was a lot more fun before it got renovated. It didn't try to cover up the fact that it was a dive bar (though still probably the nicest in Rockaway at the time, which says a lot about this town) in a run-down area, with a clientele of mostly old drunk men trying to hit on 18 year old girls. But it was always good for the end of a late night out in Rockaway. Now, although it looks a lot nicer on the inside, it's actually become trashier than it was and has drawn in a weird, nasty looking crowd. I don't know if this is because of the off-track betting deal or what, but if I'm forced to stay in Rockaway to go out on a Saturday night, I do my best to avoid The Circle. - T.H.

Comments - Cool place to go with friends, fun to just hang out. - S.R.

Cute and lively semi-trendy, but not ultra loungy. Dingy bartender. A place I would return. - A.R.

I bumped into the bartender in the Redwoods while on vacation. He mixed a fine Captain Morgan's Rum & Coke. He was always polite and though he smelled of burning embers his eagerness to serve and professionalism set him apart from most that I have encountered. His bathroom, a redwood tree in excess of 200 feet high was very clean and in good order. There were no names carved or scribbled upon it and for that matter, no toilet paper on the floor. The decor was 5th century BC Old Growth Retro with a late 20th century fire pit kitschy flair. At one point he rose upon an enormous stump and began to gyrate wildly as if possessed by the spirit of the old forest or perhaps that of some mythical Pagan beast. My transcendental experience at the Niagra though Metaphysical in nature, has left me with a very good impression of the bar. Pass the Captain Morgan's & Coke. - E.C.S.

5 Avenue A (Houston St.) 5.2 5.3 6.2 4.0

Comments - The secret of this place is the fabulous food. One of the best damn burgers in NYC; and the general Tex-Mex fare works. As for the bathrooms...pee before you leave home. I am reminded of the bathroom scene from "Trainspotting". Basically, just an open sewer hole in the floor. P.M.

It's a fun hang-out kind of place. I love the 70's theme (being a child of the 70's). The bartenders are quite friendly and the food is not bad. If only they had Karaoke, it would be my home bar!!! - P.B.

Stumbled on to this place on a Sunday afternoon and didn't leave until 4 hours later. Didn't quite pull off the Reservoir Dog's theme but it was a fun place all the same. The bartender, she was a cutie who got drunker than we did! Gotta love the buy one get one free, and friendly crowd. I'll be back! - M.S.

This place was rather annoying. I think it was supposed to be Reservoir Dogs-themed?? Checkered red & white tablecloths, seemed to be lots of loser people hanging out there, waitresses were really slow and didn't seem to care all that much. -T.W.

The jukebox and the Guinness is good, however the bathrooms.... - J.G.

I visited this place on the MurphGuide pub crawl. Located on the corner, it has a good view.  It has a pool table with some seedy looking individuals playing. Since there were two bartenders on duty, the service was good. The happy hour was 'two for one'. I suspect, as in many places in this area, it was not originally a bar. The bathrooms left something to be desired. - T.K.

Comments - Located in the lobby of the Novotel Hotel. Doesn't seem like a bar. It seems more like an extension of the hotel lobby (it is). Obviously run by a corporation (not by saloonkeepers). Service is good. Very expensive (as most hotel bars tend to be). Bathrooms very good (they are in the lobby & are for the use of all visitors to the lobby). No entertainment. Comments - This place is truly sleazy-- and no, there is no camp value to its sleaziness whatsoever. The jukebox is decent, though, and if you can find an unwarped pool cue, feel free to rack 'em up. - M.B.

If your inclination is to rage with no regard for your own safety or for those around you, then this bar will be right up your alley. Be prepared to rage like no creature has ever raged before. - M.G.

Any place with a bartender named Vegas is good for me. He's hot, too. Beers are cheap and the staff is not afraid to make fun of you. - D.D.

A true place to fall off the edge of the earth.  Can get rough but the booze is cheap and the bartenders funny (as long as you tip). Pool and darts, open late. - C.M.

I wouldn't come here at all but I am forced to since the pool league plays here. A dirty messy place! - R.P.

A true hole. The place was probably beautiful twenty years ago but now has the seedy charm of a Raymond Chandler novel. Cheap, and can be entertaining, depending on the barman. I've been several times and seen the best and worst, but the employees earn their money. Cross section of Columbia students, local shit-talkers and "hard-living" Europeans w/out Daddy's credit cards frequent the place. Watching the barmen keep an eye on the small but always moving clientele was an exhausting show. On two different occasions, with two different bartenders, I witnessed them throw a guy out of the ladies room while serving booze and stopping a brawl on the pool table. - B.L.

If you like a bar where people are using and selling drugs inside and out. This is the place for you. Don't say I didn't warn you! - H.L.

213 Second Ave. (13th St.) 4.3 5.3 5.0 6.0

Comments - The only highlight of this place is the bathroom, which in itself was irritating, but let's begin from the time I got in. A friend of mine and I were going to catch a flick in Union Square. I'm walking down Second Ave., and see three bars, the first two are closed so I phone my friend and tell her that I'll wait for at this place. The doorman is playing with scratch and play lotto tickets barks at me to show ID. I've bartended so I didn't stress it and of course did so. I go in and the only people at the bar is this weird looking guy and the bartender. She glanced at me when I came in and was cleaning bottles. I made myself comfortable at the bar, and she still continued to clean bottles and I wait to be approached, so instead I approach her and before I open my mouth, she goes "Yes!" I'm like yeah, can I have a coke. She charged me two bucks, and I gave her an extra two dollars tip. She counts the money and sucks her teeth as I walk back to where I was. Well I'm looking for matches for my cigarette. I ask the bartender for matches. She tells me she doesn't have any more. I decide to hit the bathroom, which sucks because you can't really see anything because of the dark red light, but it was clean, then again there really wasn't anyone there on a Thursday night. As I walk out I see the hack from earlier sitting on this couch having a "moment" with himself. I jet out of there and phoned my girlfriend to meet me at the theater. - K.B.

This East Village establishment is more club than pub. It features several TVs, cocktail tables, disco music, picture windows, couches, red walls, and a low ceiling (smoky). It seems to draw an obnoxious, twentysomething clientele. The prices are expensive. The bathrooms are one-at-a-time. I was there early in the evening, so the doorkeeper was not an issue. The female bartenders were OK when I was there. It's not my kind of place. - T.K.

I was there once on a Friday and once on a Saturday. Great Music! DJ plays the best old school hip hop and house. One of the best DJs I've heard! Crowd was sexy on Fri. Crowd was urban on Sat. - F.L.

Comments - The name is about the only thing about this bar that isn't original. Located at the corner of 9th Street and Avenue C, this rockabilly-punk bar is probably the highest-octane hootenanny around. The place is always packed to the gills with pompadours and mohawks, and the beer selection includes Lone-Star and Blackened Voodoo amongst a slew of other specialty items. Be sure not to miss this one. - M.B.

I wish I could give 11's but it only lets me put 10's......Coolest bar in the city. If you haven't been there yet don't bother (stay in the uptown bars). We like it the way it is. I'm sure all the trendies will be heading over to Ave. C soon anyway. - C.L.

Walked in with a clean button-down and jeans on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning.  Thought I was going to get beat up.  The pictures of naked women covering the walls at this bar are a nice touch. Scary place. - J.C.

It's still OK to drop in if you're looking for a cheap drink in a not-too-crowded venue with some interesting local color. Be sure to lament the departure of the pigs if you go, as the previous incarnation was perhaps the only swine-themed bar ever.- J.S.L.

Well I can't say I've been in there since it was the SoN, but let me tell you about one night in the SoN. A nice, low-attitude bar in TriBeCa, with a large adjacent music room featuring a live salsa music on Saturday nights. Comments - I love quaint romantic dinner spots--and my husband loves to smoke cigars after dinner....North West gave us the BEST of both worlds with its overall experience.  We live in the village--but we'll be regulars here from now on. - F.Y.

Norwood Inn (Jersey Shore) 618 2nd Ave., Avon by the Sea, NJ 8 7 8 6

Comments - This is a decent size bar in a bed & breakfast hotel. It's located two blocks from the beach. It looks like it was somehow moved here from the Irish Catskills. The lively, fun clientele are mainly Irish-Americans of all ages. The live music acts are of the sing-along variety. There are happy hour specials. There are cover charges at certain times. The bartenders are friendly and efficient. There are two bars in the place. It also has dining/cocktail tables and high-top bar tables. There is a pub menu. There are also video games, darts, and a pinball machine. There are TVs for sports viewing. The prices are reasonable and vary from one time to another. The bathrooms are adequate. Like most places at the shore, it closes at 2AM. Beware, Avon is a very small town. There are 2 bars in town (this plus the Columns). Guess where the police cars are positioned at night? They are thorough. Also, the cabs coming from towns south of here are reluctant for fear of getting stuck at the drawbridge. - T.K.
