- Small
but fun place. Usual midtown mix of after-work, tourists and
theatergoers. The name comes from the fact that there sketches of
celebrities and patrons on the walls. Reasonable drink prices.
Good service. - T.K.
This place sucks. It's right next to where I work, so for a while
I was dragged over there. Corporate ding-dongs yapping about
their day. The caricatures adorning the walls aren't bad, there
is a good Tom Waits. I've been working a corporate job for two
years, but I still can't figure these people out. All I can say
is that it's good they have a place to go. - S.G.
Great place to go for happy hour, and to chill with friends.,
Very comfortable place, and the waitresses are easy on the eyes.
- M.M.
The service in this bar needs a lot of work. The bartenders
should understand their job is to help serve patrons rather than
talk amongst themselves and lose their attitude when serving
drinks. After a while the caricatures get annoying. Not worth the
time. -A.S.
Caters mostly to the after-work crowd during the week, but the place stays laid back nonetheless. I always enjoy being here and the servers are usually very friendly. - H.W.

Fanelli's used to be a great artist and neighborhood
hangout. Now it attracts mainly the bridge and tunnel crowds. The
atmosphere and decor are minimal, and the crowding is always
uncomfortable and it is almost impossible to move once you enter
since there is a line of bar stools that take up the entire open
pathway to the backroom. The men's bathroom is still filthy, and
has not been repainted or even cleaned on a daily basis. The
bartenders are fine guys but can't handle any drunks who show up,
or control the crowding. The floor waitress does a great job or
serving the tables, but is always exhausted, and hurried. This is
a bar with a great history, and a terrible present. - L.R.

This is an historic Brooklyn landmark, serving generations of Brooklynites. Was exclusively male until the 70's, and they still are getting used to the idea of a woman who isn't related to a regular stepping foot in the place, much less getting a drink there. Serves 32 oz.
Budweiser in a Styrofoam cup -- and that is it for the beers. Atmosphere is real working-class, so don't go with pretenses or attitudes - or someone will call you on it. This is as authentic an old-time neighborhood joint as you are likely to find anymore. The size of the urinals made a large contribution to the bathroom score. -
L.S.
Not only 32 oz. beers - for 75 cents you can grab a 7 oz. glass. These bang back in two/three sips, so if you spend 20 bucks there, you are hammered. -
T.D.
My grandfather, Michael Farrell, opened this bar in the 30's. So of course I think it is the best Bar & Grill in Brooklyn. - C.F.

This is a great spot for a quiet drink with friends. The food here is really good. On Tues. & Wed.
they have a great lobster dinner special for ($11.95) if you purchase 2 beverages. The service
is fantastic!!! I have been going here for over 20 yrs. & it hasn't changed much. There is only room
for 1 in each bathroom but they are totally clean! It is mainly a 30's plus crowd. It is a great place to
bring your folks to dinner. Sometimes on Fri & Sat. there's a singer who plays a lot of
Beatles, Billy Joel, etc. He does do requests. The drink prices are good. The dark
nautical theme is cool. - R.G.

Used to be Folk City and the Kettle of Fish. Nice and dark inside, great selection of
drinks. A pool table and dartboards for those who want them. In the back, a big lounge to chill out in; atmosphere changes depending on the day and time; the recent Friday "happy hour" has tended to push out regulars in favor of yuppie scum; but when it's mostly regulars in attendance, there's plenty of heated conversation, flirting and Scrabble games; service is generally top-notch, with the bartenders Darlene, Rob & Erica at the top of the heap. One big negative is that the men's room is scummy, cold (even in summer) and the ice cubes in the urinals don't usually help the pungency. And don't sit down in the stall! -

I agree the bathrooms suck, but the rest of the bar is great. Great martinis and beer selection. Three rooms, including one of the nicest lounges in the city. You won't be disappointed. - J.2.

Time Cafe is on the ground floor. It has cocktail/dining tables
inside and outside. Fez, located in the basement, is a cabaret
featuring live acts (and cover charges) most nights. Reservations
are suggested. They both seem to draw an upscale crowd of all
ages. (This may vary depending on the show). The drink prices are
rather expensive and the service is good in both places. Both
places have high ceilings. The metallic top bar in Time is
smaller than the one in Fez. While both places are dark, Fez is
darker. The bathrooms, common to both places, are more than
adequate. - T.K.

This is the greatest Irish Pub I've ever stepped into. I'm from the Bronx and had to meet friends from college here one night, I never felt so at home at a spot in my life. The jukebox is wonderful along with the staff. There were a bunch of guys in green and white jerseys that made my night, no need for other entertainment. The atmosphere was great and everyone was friendly it was a great night out, and I'm sure I'll be back.-

Absolutely one of the best bars in the world! A great West
Village Irish bar - loads of fun. Highly recommend. - J.M.B.
Large multi-room old pub. Some very interesting old decor.
Reasonable prices, friendly
and efficient Irish bartenders. For a twist, (very modern)
bathrooms are upstairs. - T.K.
Probably the best kept secret in Manhattan, this bar is more hang
out and have fun than a meat market, but the guys are really
hot! Staff are very funny and entertaining and there always
seems to be celebrities in the place. - P.B.
This is the bar I've had the LEAST amount of fun in in my life! I
spent most of the time looking for where our bartender parked her
broomstick! - A.M.
Seemed like a pretty neat bar with a loungy backroom. Typical NYC
pricey. For some reason though, they had some of the meanest
bartenders I've ever seen. Angry young women who seemed mad at
everyone on an early Sat. night. Basically, ruined the good time
we were having & made us vow never to return. Who needs the
grief?? PS: Men's Bathroom was surprisingly nice. - M.S.
Wow!! I just had to respond to the comments made about the female
bartenders at Fiddlesticks. I'm not a regular but I do drink
there quite often, and each and EVERY time I've been there the
service, especially from the SEXY bar staff has been exceptional.
It just makes me wonder what YOU did to piss them off ?? - D.G.
The bar is blaring out 80's music and filled with a younger
twenty something crowd. Lots of fun and very friendly bartenders.

One of the few places in the area to catch the live action of Liverpool Premiere

If you want to find a great place to hang out on
Long Island, this isn't one of them. Three hour wait to get into
a place that looks like my backyard. Four bathroom stalls for
girls in the entire place!!!! The only reason why service got an
7 was because my friends and I stood by the bar for most of the
night.
The worst thing about this place was no re-entry after 1:30! I
went to get a pack of cigarettes from my car and wasn't allowed
back in! After a fight with the bouncers, they let my friend in
(with a bouncer) to locate the rest of my friends and then she
had to leave. This place sucked! - D.J.M.

Comments - The
bartenders are INSANE. This place is like the Hogs 'n Heifers of Discos. I watched 3 women get on the bar in
the lounge to dance and the (female) bartender got them to all
remove their tops and bras for the remarkably well behaved
crowd. The music and DJs are great too. - T.F.
Went to this place last Saturday night. Arrived about 12:30, there was maybe five people in the lounge, and maybe ten on the
dance floor. The lounge downstairs was just a coat check and a
couch. The bathroom was filthy. Unless this place gets jumping
later on, I thought it sucked. - M.Z.
Despite the low decor rating, I really liked this place as they
played great and varied tunes in the great and varied rooms. -
S.A.
The 80's nights are incredible. When that disco ball is spinning
in the big room, and each room is playing a different angle on
the 80's music, I am in heaven. Not everyone knows that Tommy
Frayne was one of the hottest DJs on Fire Island in the 1980's
(under the alias "Ernie Tross"), and his 80's revivals
bring back an era.
Each night has a different theme, and Tommy knows how to book
great DJ's for them all. The atmosphere is relaxed, the crowd is
diverse (young professionals, club kids, cowboys sick of Hogs and Heifers) and the bartenders are the best in New York. The decor
is lacking because of halted renovations due to a dispute with
the building's owner, so use the downstairs bathroom until you
are really drunk. I gave the decor an "8" because the
place reminded me of a great college hangout. This is a late
night club, so either bring your friends early and get some free
drinks, come after 10:30, or be prepared for the calm before the
storm. - T.A.
Management rocks. F14 is "Happenin' ''. Service? Supreme. Esp. the margaritas. Mucho gusto ;-).
Overall brand appeal: needs some work. Graphic designers need
apply. Cheers. - C.F.
I figured I'd give this place a shot since it was a place some friends wanted to grab a drink at. The Meatpacking district is def. the new growing hotspot for real NY nightclubs and this place is no exception. Very NY vibe - Like Centro-Fly, lounge room is there to lounge and the dance room is for some hardcore dancing. Gotta do something about that bathroom,
though. Nice doorman, cute and stylish people, very friendly girls. I will def visit this place again! - E.R.

Not just great for when Tortilla Flats is packed, this small,
divey bar offers a lot: bands playing downstairs, a small bar
upstairs, a back room with a pool table and a small outdoor
patio. And the bartenders are knowledgeable, friendly (and cute).

This is an attractive bar that draws some interesting locals -
but the service is the PITS! Staff acts like you are doing them a
favor by being there. Go to the bar one block up instead, if you

Great service. Thirty years of excellence. - A.W.
Fairly lifeless bar that draws a mix of young twentysomethings and over-60 drunks. The service is middle-of-the-road, and the decor is sub-par. Only go here if you're in the neighborhood and have resigned yourself to going home alone that night. - B.A.
It's been here forever. It has always been known for its burger platters. It gets a good crowd on Marathon Sunday. I understand that it's rather slow other times. Although it seemed to draw a good clientele that day, it didn't seem equipped to handle the larger crowd. The prices are reasonable.

This place used to be a friendly neighborhood bar. The new

chair. Disappointing. - M.A.
Not a terrible place, but being a new resident to the area I
guess when I saw restaurant I was expecting an upstanding place
and not a "townie" bar. Kind of a hole in the wall dive
joint that has residents from Peter Cooper in it. I sat down at
the bar and realized that if your not from that complex you are
treated like a second class citizen. People at the end think they
run the place and give you dirty looks, very uncomfortable scene
and feels like your in some joint in the outskirts of Alabama.
Stay clear if not from Cooper I guess. - J.J.
This place is old and worn out, go to M.J. Armstrong's on 19th
and 1st. Nicer bar, better crowd. - T.B.
First Ave. is a great place to relax and have an ice cold beer. They have the best burgers for the price. Drinks are the best in town. Bartenders are on top off their game!! I
don't know who makes a better martini: Kenny (Wed.) or John (Fri.). People are very nice and the service is very energetic. Wednesdays and
Fridays are good nights. Good food, great jukebox. And assorted music stations from their
satellite dish...Did I mention that their drinks prices are the best in the neighborhood.
- M.S.G.
This is a great place to go after work and hang out. The

Very decent little place to hang out on a Friday evening if you

- This is a traditional Irish Pub that draws a crowd of both young and old with the only drawback being that it is a little small. Bartenders are quite amiable. There are 5 TV's located around the bar, with at least 1 or 2 showing soccer if at all possible. There are a variety of drink specials depending on the day and the season. There is a food menu, however the kitchen is only open during the evening. While there are numerous alternatives in the area, this isn't a bad spot for a pint or two.
-A.S.
Fitzgerald's, my local, has got to be the friendliest Irish bar
in Manhattan. The bartenders are wonderful, the owner is a gem of
a man, they pour great pints of Guinness, and Mr. Eoin Finnegan
makes the best Cosmopolitans I have ever had. If you come often,
you're not just a local -- you're a friend. - M.B.
Fitzie's is the perfect local hangout. Good for darts, pretty
good sports coverage, but it's all about the atmosphere and

"Fitzie's" is my buddy's local haunt, and I can see
why. I hadn't been there in about 7 or 8 months, and when I went
to the bar, I offered my hand and salutations (sans name), and
was greeted with "Hello Jeff, long time-no see. How ya been?
Pint o' Sammy, right?" Connor is the utmost gentleman; the
quintessential bartender, and a mean darts competitor. The darts
chute is perfectly lit, and maintained. Need I say more? - J.S.A.

No question in my mind that Flannery's is one of the best bars in

GREAT
specials on Tuesday and Thursday. Flip Night is a win/win
situation because even if you lose the flip the drinks are cheap!
- J.D.
Chelsea aviation themed hang-out. Come for flip-night, where you
flip the bartender for drinks. You call heads or tails. If you
lose, you pay, if you win, its free. It adds spice to the typical
half-price happy hour. If youre lucky, you can drink free
all night. Depending on how you can handle that, you could be
unlucky too, or get lucky. Booths in front, seating in
rear for pub food. Good juke-box. Has a sibling called Flight
1668 on Third Ave. in Yorkville. - S.M.
I had 8 drinks without a single buy back!! I even bought the
female barmaid a drink and still no buy back!! What could be worse than ugly female bartenders who don't do buybacks!! Trying
eating there with all the flies! It reminds me of the Old Time
Square, a hustle. - D.B.
Very over-rated place. No buybacks even if you spend $600. The waitresses and
manager have attitudes. This bar sucks! The only people who go there are old locals and that it. No women! - F.M.

place for a date. - R.D.G.
Flute is a swanky champagne lounge located in the space which once housed
Tex Guinan's speakeasy "Club Intime". Like many
speakeasies, it is located underground in the basement, so be
careful not to pass it. They serve a tapas menu, and expensive drinks.
Very romantic spot which is great for a date. - S.M.
This dark basement bar/lounge was
once a speakeasy. It features a low ceiling, and lots of couches and living room
chairs with cocktail tables. It seems to draw a predominantly upscale clientele. The
bar area is small, but the bartender tries to be efficient. There
is a curtained-off room which can be used for private parties.
The prices are expensive. -T.K.
The live jazz band was awesome. Great place to have some cocktails. - M.L.
Nice quiet lounge, pricey bottles of champagne, courteous staff, unfortunately when
I was there it had the energy level of a dentist's waiting room. M.L.

Great place to go on Sundays. If you like soccer, they
got it on, if you like horses, they got that too. Great place to
watch all sports since they have many TVs including a large
screen TV. Bartenders are very friendly. The bathrooms are clean.
OTB is down the block if you like to play the horses. Decor is
old Irish documents and artifacts. - B.M.

Formerly The Seaport, this place seems to draw a
rowdy, twentysomething clientele of both summer visitors and Long
Islanders. It's one of the few late-night area hotspots on
Sundays. It has both a large indoor area and a decent sized yard.
The prices are reasonable (especially at happy hour) and the
service is decent. The music is a little too loud. The bathrooms
are adequate. The cabs line up outside. - T.K.
Located in Hampton Bays, New York. Has a
great crowd on Friday nights. Decor is really cool as well. DJ
plays great dance music and service is great, although you
do have to wait occasionally. Bar is usually packed on Fridays
and Thursday nights. Summer season is best! - A.B.
Trashy, typical Hampton Bays crowd. Venue is way too small for
the amount of people let in. Way too hot, humid inside, full of
under 21 western Suffolk County trash. Obviously this is the
crowd that used to frequent Dublin Over. The bathrooms are gross.
However, the drinks are reasonable. Lots of fights with plenty of
guidos. The bouncers are total classless juiceheads. A
fun place if you're in college, however, if you've got any class
or money you'd never step foot inside this dump. - J.R.
I have never gone to the Goggle and had a bad time...I have
brought many out of town friends and they have all fell in love
with the place. Summer nights usually have a fun theme, even the
recently opened Friday nights are a blast. Their Halloween party
was impressively fun. Drinks are reasonable and generously
poured. And I love the woman that is in the bathroom on summer
nights: she keeps everyone moving and laughing. I would recommend
this place to the 21-25 year old crowd or anyone older wishing to
act that way. Beware the yo-bros every once in a while though,
but you are guaranteed to have fun! - D.H.
Opening this place in the
off-season shows just how greedy the owners are to make more
money off this place, while again causing more trouble in a small
town (Hampton Bays) that already has to deal with this riff-raff
during the summer months. The crowd is full of "tough
guys" who just love to bump shoulders and elbows while
walking through the crowd. Fights galore. - R.B.
I could have sworn I was on the Jersey shore for a min, thought I took a wrong turn, then
I realized I just found the worst night spot in the Hamptons. Decor - teeny bop.
The music - teeny bop, The service - quick but def. watered down. The bathroom.. can you say "truck rest stop"? The people are all early twenties if not younger - so needless to say - not the type of crowd you want if you are looking for a mature group. - S.R.

Comments - I
really loved this place! The atmosphere was great and we happened
to stumble on to a comedy night (1st Monday of the Month) which
had some top notch comedians. I would absolutely go back. - G.D.
Wasn't really crowded for a Sat night, but it was nice anyways. Service was great. Music was excellent, nice mix of old and new mostly hip hop ,
R&B music. Very well done there. Drinks were pricy, went from $6 upstairs to $8 downstairs? Bar is upstairs and Couches and dance floor are downstairs. Bathrooms took a while, one at a time type, were wet on floor, pretty gross. -
D.K.
Small, dark place - more like a club than a pub. Many tables, 2
TV sets, 70's disco music. Friendly and efficient female
bartenders. Somewhat expensive. Unisex
bathrooms are one-at-a-time. - T.K.

low-key neighborhood bar located off the Bell Blvd. strip. It

The
Shilling is one of the coolest bars. The decor is really cool,
Celtic knot-work patterns adorn the walls. The bar itself was
imported from Ireland and sent over by way of boat via Atlantic
Ocean. I haven't tried the food there yet. But the staff there
are friendly, the crowd is mainly a Wall Street suit-and-tie
crowd. The bathroom rocks, they even have piped in music from the
jukebox, so you can respond to "Natures Calling"
without having to miss your selection. Also the place is HUGE!!!
Worth the visit. But don't go on weekends because they are
closed. - A.G.
It is packed from 4:30 - 6:30, and pricey. Not for the
"just got to Wall St. crowd" Service at the bar
is slow at best, but they are friendly. Nice wannabe Irish
decor. - D.N.
A great bar--all the way from Ireland and over 100yrs old! great
place for a good lunch or a pint after work. friendly staff and
you really have to see the place to believe it--very
authentic....the food, drink and service. enjoy. - J.P.K.

- This
cavernous space is one of the most bizarrely located on the
island of Manhattan. It is underneath the Manhattan Bridge,
making it a very out-of-the-way spot for all but a few denizens
of the LES or Chinatown East. However, it's worth a look
and maybe even a special trip. The inside is club-like, but
there's no cover and often little or no wait at the door.
The walls are covered with video projections that are
usually synced up with the music. Crowd ranges from Uptown-ey
to hip, and it has nice little touches like the always cute
bartenders and the video feeds in each bathroom that show you
what's going on with the opposite sex. - J.S.L.
Fun place, but never take a jacket or be prepared to spend half
of your time waiting. The wait to check your coat in at
this place could ruin any fun you planned on having. - B.M.W.
First of all there is a cover. $7 guys and $5 girls. The name of the place and the 1st review suggests that this place might be ... FUN?
IT IS NOT!!
Totally a dive. There is not a wait because it sucks. Drinks were $10 each for well vodka that was probably watered down. Once in the door the entrance is covered with an old scummy black curtain that I was afraid to touch because it did not look like it was ever washed. The "dance floor" consisted of a small painted cracked concrete floor. There was 2 DJs and I'd say they played pretty good music. Overlooking the club is a small area with a few seats and I saw a girl sleeping on one of the chairs. She was not having Fun.
Around the bar are a few gray stained old sofas that make the curtain on the entrance look clean. The crowd was a mix of the fake ID club, locals from
Chinatown and a couple of 30+ guys looking to hook up.
Oh, the large projection screen only showed animation that did not go with the lame ass light show or the music.
DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! - J.
