6, 2006 HDFest and after... And then we went to HDFest... By Nichelle Stephens Friday nights can be deadly if you start out drinking early at happy hour, so it's good to mix a little culture in the night to slow down the slide into complete drunken debauchery. My friends and I started the evening watching short films at HDFest at the Tribeca Screening Room, a film festival featuring films shot in high definition. After getting about an hour of culture, it was time to get some grub. |

| I
wanted to have dinner at Ditch Plains (29 Bedford Street) because they
serve these delicious mozzarella fritters. However, the place was way
too crowded, so we went to Aroma instead. Aroma is a new 24-hour
cafe on Houston near Greene, where they serve coffee, salad and
sandwiches. We then walked down to the Lower East Side to partake in the
open bar that was going to be a Bondi Road, an Australian bar (153
Rivington Street). It was another crowd that I had no patience for so I
suggested stopping by one of my favorites spots, Barramundi (67 Clinton
St). My friends and I sipped the bar's white sangria which may or may
not be seasonal, but it is good stuff! After two rounds of drinks, we got a text message from a friend who was drinking over at White Horse Tavern at 567 Hudson Street in the West Village. The White Horse Tavern is where Dylan Thomas drank himself to death, so you have to be brave to drink there. We hailed a cab and made our way across town to join a crew of about ten people who had settled into White Horse after seeing a Meatloaf cover band called Anything But Loaf, who played at another bar in the neighborhood. While at the bar, I spotted a guy who resembled "McDreamy" from "Grey's Anatomy". He left before I could make a move, so I drank my Stoli Blueberry and tonic before heading home. |
