Pussycat Lounge
Avoid the strip tease and go for the thrift store lounge

Strip joints are not my scene to begin with and the Pussycat Lounge (96 Greenwich St) leaves a lot to be desired. Overpriced, tiny drinks and dancers so far behind the bar that tipping is next to impossible. Luckily I was on my way upstairs at the to the thrift store meets church inspired cabaret lounge. My friend Troy Wise put together a show featuring himself, Christina Anicet, clueLess and Bobby Kane with Sapientia.

The club’s been a financial district mainstay since 1969 (or so their website claims). The guitar-themed alter and stained glass in close proximity to the register should have tipped me off to how sacred the booze is here. The drinks upstairs are unfortunately as tiny and pricy as they are downstairs.

As for the sound from the stage; it was way too tinny and harsh for its own good. This is a real shame because the stage itself is a decent size. A bit high off the floor for my taste. But between this and the overall size of the room, you would think they would put a bit more effort into the sonic quality.

Of course there is the game of getting amused by finding odd fixtures and furniture. An old bicycle rickshaw in the hallway, Chinese dragons, an assortment of mis-matched whatnot strewn about and torn, mylar stars on the walls. Thankful for the music and great crowd of friends, I still managed to have a really good time.
