Do Your Little Turn on the Katwalk

Sex and the City Night...

By Jackie Beach

Die-hard fans of Sex and the City can still catch episodes of their favorite show at Katwalk Bar and Lounge on Wednesday evenings, complete with Carrie Cosmos and Miranda Martinis.

“I thought of the concept about three years ago,” said Katwalk owner Michael Tracy. “The event’s been going on for about two and a half years, and it’s been a big hit.”
Although the show’s excitement and fan base have died down since, New Yorkers still patronize the bar to catch glimpses of Carrie and her gang of sexy women on the big screen. The bar has two projector screens and several flat-screen televisions.
“We play Sex and the City, with subtitles, on at least two screens,” Tracy said. “At first, we had it on all the screens, but some guys wanted to watch sports.” According to Tracy, the men also showed up to watch the women coming in droves.

“It brought in a heavy female demographic in the beginning. Groups of 4 or 5 girls would come in together.” Tracy noted. “Now it’s gotten more even, close to fifty/fifty.”
The bar plays random episodes of the show until approximately 9:30 P.M., when the night crowd starts to pour in.

“We’re often booked for private events,” said Tracy, showing off his elegant VIP Kat Lounge, which comfortably accommodates 75 guests. Tracy and his staff provide hassle-free contracts and services for private parties, including no bar minimums and a choice of two specials – one free hour of unlimited hors d’oeuvres or four free bottles of champagne.

“We’re probably single-booked about 52 Saturdays out of the year and double-booked 45 of those,” said Tracy. Not bad for a bar three years into the biz.
One reason for Katwalk’s success might well have to do with karma. In addition to linking up Sex and the City night with the Breast Cancer Foundation and cutting them a check every month for 10% of all profit made during the event, Tracy also offers guest bartenders an opportunity to save the world – 10 % of all profits made during their shift go to their personal charity of choice.

Not so interested in helping the greater good while you’re at a bar? Hit up Katwalk on Tuesday evenings for Mobster Night, where you can enjoy your favorite Mafia movies and $3 Bada Bing Bud Selects.

Katwalk now offers outdoor seating in their Sidewalk Café, complete with lunch and dinner specials featuring organic produce and meat.

Swanky ambience, friendly service, and barely dressed bartenders…topped off with a real catwalk for plenty of late night antics, Katwalk turns any party into a purrfect one.

Sex and the City Night is every Wednesday at Katwalk...
