Wee Burgers and Good Cheer
Holiday drinks at Lincoln Park Grill
By Stephen Bailey

Rickety furniture on an old wooden floor lines this charming, classic-style watering hole with plenty of TV screens to watch the (whatever) game. Not really a point of attraction for me. Still there's enough of that local pub feel that I prefer in the Lincoln Park Grill (867 Ninth Ave, NYC) to make it worth a night of drinks and food. Try the Wee Burgers. Truly an appropriate name because these delicious morsels are as tiny as quarters. But at only $1 each, they are a bargain and a catalyst for what was to come later.

In fairness, the self-proclaimed split-level description of the bar is pretty much a misnomer. There are a few little tables that are three steps up from the main bar as well as a booth of sorts by the front window. As people crowded in, we played a comical game of Tetris trying to situate everyone. Some simply moved to the bar or wandered around. A bunch of us had gotten together for a combination of holiday drinks and a congratulatory night for my friend Will who had scored a new job.

With its good food, cheap drinks and friendly staff, I can definitely see myself coming to Lincoln Park Grill again. It’s nice to find new places, even if they’ve been a neighborhood staple for years. What I love about NYC nightlife are the many hidden gems just waiting to be discovered. Named for it’s proximity to both Lincoln Center and Central Park, this small bar can be easy to miss, as I have done on my many strolls along 9th Avenue. You are, however, well advised to find it.

Then we were off to the East Village for sushi. Well, some of us anyway...
