The Bash 2006

And then we went to the Metropolitan Club's Holiday Bash…

by Jackie Beach

Whew! Do those folks know how to party! And give to charity at the same time! The Metropolitan Club, LLC was established in 1993 by Billy Lawlor, Tom McEvoy & Mike Jensen.

This year marked their 14th annual Christmas Bash, where guests decked out in gowns and tuxes bring toys for the needy and dance the night away to the Billy Lawlor Band. The band is especially popular on the New Jersey shore, and loyal fans who fill the Parker House and Bar A attended in droves to ring in the holiday season.

The party was held in Manhattan's historic Puck Building and the grand ballroom was glittered with Christmas lights and shiny sequined dresses. These guests ignored the "optional" part of "black tie optional," and went all out. The atmosphere was festive and the mood was celebratory. Men and women of all ages shouted, clapped, danced, and sung to classic songs like "American Girl" and "Werewolf in London." Lawlor proclaimed from the stage, "New Jersey shore people like to sing!"

At midnight, Lawlor and his fine band began to slow the mood and played the first Christmas song of the night. Women had long flung off their strappy heels and men had loosened those restrictive neckties. Couples snuggled in corners and the bartenders breathed sighs of relief.

The best part? More than fourteen charities benefited from the bash and thousands of children who would have otherwise had nothing, will wake up on Christmas morning this year and receive a brand new toy.

And then what happened...?
