Stuntditch Live at Arlene's Grocery
Regional Mexican / Punk / Dub ... no not really ...

Bands are a funny species. They need to stand out and get noticed more than in just about any other career path. This is especially true for those from the north eastern part of the US where being in a band is practically the law. Still I don't think the place you want to be clever and offbeat is in the description of your sound. Regional Mexican / Punk / Dub? What the?

But this quirky headline on MySpace aside, if I had to categorize the sound of Stuntditch, I'd say it's a reggae-fied rock mixed with raw funk overtones. I went to see them at Arlene's Grocery (95 Stanton St, NYC) at the request of my fiends Jase and Mia. For a bunch of guys from Philly playing on a Sunday night, they had a decent crowd here. And when they played I could see why.

Their simple songs and tight rhythms made me think briefly that, if I were the type to give in to the urge to dance, I would have been moving in all sorts of embarrassing ways. Thankfully I was trying to be professional and take pictures. They certainly have a confidence and charisma on stage that added to the delight of the audience. It was definitely a fun night.

Cool band, good people ... half naked go-go dancer hanging from the pipes in Pianos ... how could I not have fun! Oh yeah, Pianos (158 Ludlow St, NYC). We went there to end our night and suddenly, without warning there was this dancer in spike heels and a black thong bikini strutting around and hanging from the sprinkler pipes. I fantasized about the pipes bursting, but alas, I went home dry.
